Really good service and a good choice of Hungarian dishes. I did lke the "authentic" gypsy musicians, and the Restaurant seems to have taken note of previous reviews in that they only go to specific tables when asked to. Only downside was I found a large piece of plastic in my food..... the witier was absolutely beside himself - the... More

The Karpatia has excellent service, and a wide variety of traditional Hungarian dishes. it's a bit more expensive than your average Budapest restaurant, but well worth it. The amount of food is huge, and it is well prepared. At night there are what are advertised as gypsy musicians -- whether they are Roma or not, they were good, and can... More

We booked a table at this restaurant and arrived to find it very full, which always a good sign. The welcome was genuine and warm. The menu is excellent and reasonably priced and includes, as you would expect a range of traditional Hungarian dishes. The wine list was superb and prices reasonable. The service was excellent. The traditional Gipsy music... More

Kárpátia is a great restaurant, having an excellent cuisine, warm and friendly service and nice gipsy music right in the heart of Budapest. We warmly recommend it!

The service here was excellent (and all the staff spoke very good English). The food was also good, and not too expensive.

The interior of the restaurant is amazing and the staff friendly and welcoming. We booked in advance, but it wasn't actually necessary as it wasn't full. The food was OK but a bit pricey. They do offer pre-dinner drinks, local wine and palinka, which can easily add up the bill. The musicians are very good and really made the night... More

Warning - not cheap!! Welcoming staff, good service. Menu a little disappointing compared to the write-ups; didn't see anything obviously 'Transylvanian', most dishes were as seen on other menus. That said, what I had was very nice, albeit somewhat overpriced. Good winelist but also quite expensive. However, one pays for surroundings/ambience as well as food/service, and on that basis I... Participating in the Hungary Tourism Ltd's Fat Thursday program last year, we enjoyed a fine supper at Kárpátia. The atmosphere and the gipsy music is especially unique. Foods are really good, and the service is elegant and sociable, at the same time. (Even in the rush hours of that special culinary event!) Highly recommended.

I came to know about this place when I watched Michael Palin's new Europe. The restaurant did live up to its expectations. The food was very nice, but the best experience was the Romanian musicians. They are very talented and made the dinner experience more memorabld

Agree with most of the reviews - interiors 5*, food 3*, service 4*. Went on a very quiet Sunday evening (many places closed or empty) and despite roadworks making it slightly difficult to find, this was a nice evening. Both the restaurant and brasserie are decorative masterpieces. Service was prompt and friendly and the wine was good. Food fairly average... More
