A couple of years ago we took my best friend and his family here for lunch. They're from Denver. My thought was, "We'll, it's dingy and the decor hasn't been changed in probably 40 years, but it's reasonable for a group, and people who like steak (which my friends did, big time) usually considered True Grits an Alamosa staple. What... More

Four of us had dinner there recently. They were busy, and our waitress said they were short handed. One of us just had a potato--no problem. 2 of us had steak and shrimp. Steak was so-so, shrimp were actually pretty good--rice and (previously frozen) steamed veggies were cold. My wife ordered grilled trout. EVERYTHING on her plate was cold. She... More

My wife and i both were shocked when we had to sign a paper stating we understood the dangers of eating meat that is red in the center. This seemed strange since we ordered a medium hamburger. The couple next to us take one look at their food and walked out! After we received ours we noticed why, it smell... More

Good steaks. Group of 6 and everyone enjoyed their food even the fish eater. The veggie was corn which is a starch. So we double starched it

Sat for 20 minutes waiting to order, girls "jawing " at the bar. Chicken fried steak was like last weeks meatloaf fried in batter, Should have known from the exterior, Nasty, but it was walking distance to the hotel. Other guys on the crew actually went to the service station across the street to eat, yeah.

We were just there this weekend. I ordered two ice teas, I got one in a juice glass and one in a beer mug. Ordered our steaks and after one hour still didn't have our food or even saw the waitress. I couldn't find anyone for even a refill of our tea. I searched the whole restaurant and couldn't find... More

Prime Rib was good but not outstanding. The friends (seniors) who ate with us ordered a larger cut of prime rib to share. They said the portions were ample enough that they were satisfied with the size of the meal but the meat was underdone. They did not send it back to the kitchen, however. My prime rib was more... We ate here based on TripAdvisor reviews and were very disappointed. Service was extremely slow and our steaks (we ordered 3 different ones) were barely edible. The chopped sirloin was almost burned and they would not let you choose how it could be cooked. The baked potatoes, bread and salad were good.

I have been here a few times and enjoyed myself. It is a little dark and run-down looking inside, but the food is good and the wait staff pretty friendly. I love all of the John Wayne memorabilia.
