A little hard to find but worth it! Very tasty food, lots of choices, clean premises, friendly staff.
I have eaten at this restaurant a few times and there are times when I was more than happy with the fare while at other times it has been extremely ordinary. Their Kerala meal or thali is fine but nothing to write home about but their Karemeen fry (a fish that is considered a delicacy in Kerala) at times is... More
Simple down home food. The payasam is a little too sweet, but the appams are soft and fluffy, the stew had the right degree of bite. My primarily North Indian crew ate until they could barely stagger out. Watched with amusement by the predominantly Malayali customers busy at their own plates.
Very nice atmosphere, it was like home away from your home. Large variety of foods from Kerala specials to continental cuisine. Quality was so good and the hospitality was remarkable starting from the security till the cash counter.
Kumarakom can only be termed 'just another restaurant serving Kerala cuisine'. There is nothing special about the food that they serve. Kerala meal ( Rice, sambar, rasam, avial, thoran, pappadam, payasam ) for lunch is excellent, but the seafood is disappointing. Combinations like Kappa with fish and Appam with potato stew is good and might make you visit there again;... More
This is the best kerala food joint in Chennai.... Try their Kerala paratha with beef roast...its yummy Other kerala foods like karimeen, kappa meen curry etc also good Some of their joints got live band. (average singers but good)
To sum up the whole experience in one word - "authentic". From the management to the waiters, from the setting to the music, and of course, the food. Syrian Beef Fry - I can revisit this place again and again for just this one dish. A word of advice - dont be too late for lunch or dinner, the Kerala... More
Standard Kerala cuisine with good variety. However those who are looking for authentic Kerala fish would be disappointed. They fry it too much with a lot of spices. karimeen pollichathu was a disappointment.
Kumarakom when it started used to be THE (budget) place to go to in Chennai with family if you wanted to have Kerala food. However, after thier rapid expansion all over Chennai, looks like they have slipped on both service and quality. I would only rate them as average on quality of food as well as service.
Food served specific to Kerala Region like Beef and Pork are excellent. Consistency of the Porottas and Appams are questionable. The Chicken roast and chicken pepper roast did not differ much in taste. However the veg dishes like Veg Gobi Manchurian was excellent and so was the FISH curry Kerala Style.
