I've been here more than a few times. It's just about the perfect little lunch spot. Excellent ingredients, and implementation almost every single time. Its very reasonable too. I can't believe there isn't a line out the door for this one like the can vegetable haven down the street. I guess it just takes Tuscaloosa a while to catch on.... More

Prior to my last visit I had a decent perception of Carmelo. Upon my first visit they were a little slow and clearly understaffed but that paled in comparison to my most recent visit. After arriving with my family on time for our reservation we were told to seat ourselves. After sitting down one member of our group decided to... More

This place really had stellar food. So, thumbs up for that. However, they apparently didn't order enough beer for the weekend and on our Saturday night visit at 6 pm, they were out of ALL of their craft beers among other beverages. The list of things they were out of was so long, I just started asking what they DID... More

Delicious! Delicious! Dee-lic-ioussss!! Loved it! You must try the fried green tomatoes with melted pimento cheese or the shrimp n grits. Pricy at night time, but worth it. Homemade salad dressings with a zing and drink specials too. In the heart of downtown.

Took family members who live in the area and had never been there. Although it is in an area that is full of restaurants, the signage here is hard to spot. There is a sign hanging above eye level, so that if you are approaching from a distance, you might see it. Otherwise, there is a chalkboard on the outside... More

My wife and I were looking for a great dinner at a different place than we had been before, and we found the Carmelo Cafe- and it definitely hit the mark! The service was good, and the southern style food was great- we will go back again!

We visited Carmelo's for a second time and were again impressed by the food. It is fresh and the combinations/offerings are different from usual cafe offerings. My wife and I had salads, I had the Apple Salad and she had the Pear, Craisins and Feta Cheese one, for dinner and they were excellent. The flavors were outstanding, everything was fresh... More

Fried green tomatoes excellent, walnut fried chicken & mashed potatoes very good, bruschetta tasty & unique. 10 yo daughter loved carmelo burger. Very attentive staff. Only downside, loud noise from bar next door, otherwise would definitely go again.

Kozy's let us down with just ordinary overpriced food. Depalma's does not take reservations and had minimum hour wait. Decided to try Carmelo's since friends in our group had enjoyed dinner there before. Made reservations for 4 at 8 on Friday night. Other reviews made note of smell of stale beer and cigarettes from near by bars at Timmerson Square... More

We have enjoyed several meals for lunch and dinner. The shrimp and grits is great but the mussels were out of this world. Vegetables were all fresh and full of flavor and the portions are a great value. Even the drink specials were fresh and something you would not expect. Despite rating it for friends It is also kid friendly... More
