A good friend recently introduced me to Thomas Maxwell while on a trip to Jhb. Don't be put off by the shabby street surroundings and lack of parking - Thomas Maxwell provides a delightful evening out. Good food, attentive yet out-of-your-face service and extensive (although slightly pricey) wine list. Beautiful evening out.

Wanted to go and experience a good restaurant in JHB. Was not disappointed. Had great starters. We had the beef fillet and truffle and Rabbit Risotto. Fillet was awesome. I would eat here every week if I could. That should tell you enough, but tripadvisor insist on me writing at least 100 characters (I must be getting close). Look, the food was superb - including the best steak I've had for a long time - and the selection of cocktails, wine and spirits were excellent. That's it. :)

Couldn't recommend this place higher - fantastic wine list, open, casual, very well appointed space, and every meal we had was top notch, as well as some great desserts. Good service, knowledgeable about their wine as well with good recommendations. Not cheap, but if you're in Rosebank or Sandton, you'll regret not eating here.

An exquisite dining experience, great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff. Excellent South African Carbenet Sauvignon. I decided for a quite nice funghi risotto! It was an excellent dinner after a tough working day!
