I have been visiting Wandies for years. The walls covered with business cards and messages from all it's guests make is a fun place to visit. It really is a international bar/restaurant. I would recommend everyone to visit. It is safe and the staff are extremely friendly. I love it.....Soweto girl!!

This might be okay for lunch. But it was scary for dinner, to drive through the area to get here after dark. Our rented minivan was attacked by wandering mobs when we left. We drove through blocks of garbage, broken glass & small fires set in the road. We were treated nicely once we arrived, even though we felt terribly... More

great traditional south african buffet. very touristy, with a local band singing tina turner and louis armstrong songs, and the typical hand made knick-knacks you see being sold all over the country. loved the hall covered with guest's visiting cards and home country currency.

Didn't really know where we were gonna end up on this tour. This was more of a restaurant now. Was hoping for a more traditional shebeen feel with sourgum beer. Still looking for the beer.

Wandies is in the heart of Soweto. It was originally an illegal shebeen, where locals in Soweto could have a drink. When tourism opened up in Soweto after Apartheid, Wandie opened his restaurant to tourists. Since then, thousands of guests have delighted to the large buffet meal with traditional "gnush"(mashed beans) Pap and beef stew, Marog (african spinach cooked with potato)... More

Food is ok, a large buffet, but the experience to sit elbow to elbow with the locals is unforgettable! Not easy to find, must go with someone who has been there before. Even if you don't stay in Jo'burg but you have 4-5 hours between your flights it's a good idea to take the short trip to Soweto and Wandie's... More

Our thanks to the staff and customers at Wandies who accepted our very short time frame for a lunch time bite. We had intended coffee only and their generosity enabled a much needed plate full of delicious traditional food to be consumed in the second restaurant area. We even got to walk through the kitchen and can verify as to... More

Wandies is one of the main stopping points on the tourist trail in Soweto, the "South West Township" next to Johannesburg. Located in the suburb of Dube, it's the only restaurant in a small side street. If you manage to find the place (Google Maps does not even get you close, but a good GPS SatNav should), enough secure parking... More
