I was staying at the Hotel and expected 'hotel food' - boy was i surprised. I wanted to eat everything on the menu - no wonder its called the Gannet! Sushi is great, obviously the seafood is what you would expect of a coastal resort. I just didnt find enough depth in the desserts - I have a very sweet... More

Not overly impressed here! Pricy compared to lots of places we ate while in South Africa, and food fine but nothing out of the ordinary, perhaps because, as we discovered, it is attached to the Protea Hotel and possibly deals mostly with their 'captive' customers, as there are few other decent 'eateries' nearby. We tried it because of reviews. Their... More

My wife's Kingklip was good, my lamb curry was tasty and different. The Margarita my wife ordered was orobably the worst we've ever experienced - the taste and consistency of lemon squash. Both food and wine are expensive by usual SA standards. The indoor space is functional at best, and the service was, in our experience on a Thursday night,... More

On deciding to do a day trip and explore Mossel Bay, we had worked up an appetite and were unsure where to find a classey, yet inexpensive, 'Water Hole', and at our age (we r mature) we prefer a vibey atmosphere without clutter:) When we entered the establishment (Cafe Gannet) we wondered whether it may be too pricey as it... We read the reviews and turned up to have a coffee and check the place out. After all it is called a cafe. We'd already had a big breakfast so we weren't ready to eat an early lunch and we regretted it immediately. The place is very large and has a shady garden and a verandah that overlooks the sea.... Delicious food, great environment, great service. Not the biggest option of choices on the menu, however, very tasty and well presented. Only down-side was the starter was a little slow in arriving and main course was delivered while still eating it. Slightly on the expensive side, but the quality of the food is worth it. Definitely worth a try!

Went to Cafe Gannet on our second night in Mossel bay. The food we has was fantastic but the service from the staff left us nonplussed. From the time we walked in and asked if we could see a menu we were treated with disdain. The drinks we ordered were slow to arrive and when we were done with the... More
