Small mom and pop restaurant. Place quite dated but has Mexican atmosphere. I wanted tortilla soup but they don't serve that. Chile relleno was excellent. Parking in the back free.

Don't be put off by the outside. This place wins every award for food. Chili Verde is habit forming. The service and prices are great. The food is hot. If you like original Mexican food, this is your place. All the local go here.
Small restaurant. Mom and Pop operation Seats about 50. Get there early as it fills up fast. Good menu. EVERYTHING is homemade and fresh. Chips are warm and the salsa is excellent. Every dish that came out of the kitchen looked good. Service was great! Worth the wait if they are busy.
We've been coming back to El Gallito over the last few years for good reason - great Mexican food! Be sure to try the carnitas whenever you find it offered as a special.
I doubt we will ever go back here . Couldn't even get a Margharita ... they don't make them , only beer and wine .

Loved their food, but would like people to know they only accept cash. No credit cards were accepted.
We visit the Palm Springs area on a regular basis, and never miss a chance to eat at El Gallito. Charming historical environment, personable proprietors and staff, fabulous food. Looking forward to our next visit.
The restaurant is located in a very plain & older building but has good atmosphere. This was our second visit here and as before we found the food to be very good as was the service. Everything was very fresh and we will be back again on our next trip to Palm Springs.
We weren't able to eat here because my partner is vegan, and there was nothing on the menu that didn't have lard in it. Hence vegetarians and vegans are not catered to here. At least they admitted it and we opted to eat elsewhere. Lots of great reviews though, very authentic, and if you don't do eat lard often, or...
