Description: Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch.

I was treated to Il Fornaio on Saturday for Father's Day. Had a great time. Perfect location with a fantastic view across the bay to the the skyline of my favorite city and hometown, San Diego. The food was very good. Each month a different region of Italy is featured and currently Liguria is being highlighted. I had Sea Bass... More

This restaurant is the place to go if you want a fine Italian meal in an excellent setting with views of the bay. Great place for special occasions. Can be pricey but is well worth it.

There is nothing wrong with restaurant. It is a canned experience. Everything is programmed to be exact, fast and the same. Ask for a seat by the widow---you will get a great view of San Diego across the Bay. I guess we did not fit their format. First, we felt pleasantly rushed; another number to get in and out the... We stopped for an early dinner on a Wednesday evening and found the restaurant not very busy but that changed as the evening went on. The staff were attentive and helpful recommending the house specialties and short term regional offering. We both tried the cod and it was very good. The meal came piping hot to the table and was... Good solid food. Deft service. Great atmosphere. It's upbeat, bustling, and kind of So Cal cool. Situated in Coronado and Del Mar, the whole vibe is upscale.

Have been to IF many a time. Most recently for my b'day. Food is always amazing and staff are friendly and efficient. If you can, grab a table on one of the patios. It's worth a wait for the view of downtown San Diego. Beef Carpaccio, butternut squash rav's and any dessert they are offering! Reservations a plus on the... More

The first proviso: we went to Il Fornaio on Mother's Day! What were we thinking? Well, we were hungry and we were away from home. So, it was crowded and service was slow. Our table shared the wall with the bar and there were times when we thought a helicopter was about to land on us. We looked enviously at... More
