Trip Advisor was right on the money for this restaurant within the beautiful walled city. It is quite close to the center of the small city and east to get to from any hotel. A very casual restaurant with beautiful wall decorations and great service. We ate chicken fried rice and beef with broccoli - one of their specialties. Dessert... More

As you would expect, all of Pingyao is a "tourist trap", but worth seeing. The Tian Yuan Kui Guehouse is very pleasant, clean and with helpful staff. The rooms are a fair size, but not large, but for one or two nights are OK. We did not sample the food there (apart from Breakfast, which was small, basic (egg and... More

a tourist trap. Overly expensive and among the worst food I have had in my 2 years in China. The only nice thing were the peanuts served as an appetizer. Be courageous and enter one of the neon-lit local restaurants, you will have much better food, a true chinese experience at a 5th of the price.

We went there twice and beside the very friendly stuff and nice decoration, the food is amazing: tasty local dishes without any bad surprises and a lot of westernized things (chicken without bones for example) we really enjoyed.

Pingyao is not somewhere to visit for food, at least that was our impression. So it was a relief to find a cosy well-run restaurant to fall back on. We rarely choose to eat at the same place over and over on holiday, preferring to explore instead. But options were relatively limited, and so we are at Tian Yuan Kui... More

The place is tastefully decorated. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms were were equipped. Although the inn gives the impression of an authentic ancient inn by using traditional Chinese furniture, it also provides Internet connection which was convenient. There are several beautiful courtyards that separated the rooms, and red lanterns were used all through the inn which gave it... More

Tian Yuan Kui is one of many lovely old Courtyard hotels in Pingyao. The benefit for foriegn tourists is that it has English speaking staff and offers very nice foood in pleasant settings. A good place to go for a beer or internet access as well.

We went to this restaurant after reading the other reviews on this site. What a major disappointment - the worst experience in China so far. Our initial welcome was friendly as we were shown to our table. Our waitress who came to take our order was completely unhelpful and did not smile once. We asked about dishes on the menu,... More
