For our first visit, we arrived on time for our Saturday night 7:45 reservation (party of four). We were seated promptly and asked for our drink orders, which came timely. We ordered our appetizers and entrees. Salads and apps served promptly, and cleared. Then we sat for one solid HOUR waiting for the entrees. The waiter never checked back with... More

Beautiful french restaurant with amazing food, and the occasional Edith Pilaf playing in the background! Makes me want to jump on a plane for Paris. Say what you will about the French, but they know how to eat! A beautifully cooked steak in a truffle sauce was divine to say the least, but the gran marnier souffle was so incredible!... More

A friend and I celebrated her birthday here at Cheval Bistro. We were greeted by a friendly crew of people and shown to our table that had a happy birthday handwritten card addressed to my friend. What drew me in initially was their high rating on several food blogs, and we weren't let down. Their food was delicious and prepared... More

We have had great meals at other Smith Bros. restaurants in Pasadena but this was our first time at Cheval Bistro. It certainly won't be our last. Family group of five adults and one six-year-old. They seated us in a booth in a small alcove facing the main dining room. Dispute the crowd, the booth area was amazingly quiet and... More

We enjoyed our dinner very much. I had the mussels, sold as an hors d'oeuvre, but ample for an entree. My husband had the special pork chop dinner which he enjoyed. Entrees are pricey, but the food and service are excellent. There is a public parking garage next door, but on a Saturday night, it was full, so we used... More

Absolutely a great French dining experience. On arrival, I noticed a nice, light, comfortable and classy ambiance. Not stuffy or dark - hat that. The reception was attentive and timely. We sat at a table by the window, but looking around, it would have been just as well anywhere in the restaurant. The service was FANTASTIC. Provided a well guided... More

Was able to compare with old favorites like New York's Balthazar and Bouchon in Napa. We were not disappointed. The Cheval Blanc stood out because of the obvious skill and dedication of its chefs. Everything was just right from the cooking of the filets to the perfection of the Sauce Bearnaise. Service was both friendly and professional. If you want... More

This was like a trip across time. We really loved the menu choices, wines by the glass, and the food. The waiter explained that they followed the recipes of Julia Child, and so it resulted in classic fare. However, since we usually don't find kitchens willing to take that much time with prep and ingredients, it was a rare treat.... More

I was Leary of a French restaurant in Pasadena, especially after having spent some recent time exploring bistros in Paris. I was wrong. Lovely food, great wine and fabulous service. I will be back.
