I am a pretty decent cook, so I go to a restaurant for conversation, foods that I don't cook at home, and to be "taken care of". We found that MA filled the bill admirably. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The atmosphere was such that our party of 4 could relax and talk for a good 2 hours,... More

On a quiet street in "Old Pasedena." Very pleasant atmosphere. Food very good to terrific. The Baked Alaska was totally yum. I liked that you could get either a so-called tappas size or a larger size of the entrees. My sons had the multi-course fixed price dinner. The courses were nice and light so you could eat them all. Of... More

We had a party of 10 meet for Sunday Brunch. We arrived at 11 AM (opening time) and enjoyed the fact that there was no line for the food. By 11:45, a line developed and moved a bit slow. I think that the food was excellent for an all you can eat brunch. Normally, I would be afraid to eat... More

The soufflé was TDF. The sea bass, which was what the waiter told us "the reason the restaurant was still open," was just so-so. We always order sea bass anywhere it's on the menu. The best sea bass so far is still at Taps in Brea. Service was great, but the place was not busy when we went about an... More

My husband and I went to their valentine's dinner service, and were disappointed. There were a ton of technical flaws with the cooking. My husband's rice was undercooked, and several other courses were over-done. The high concept, was not matched by the skill of the chef.

My wife and I met Akira Hirose and his wife at a wedding party on Saturday. We learned that he was from Kyoto, had studied fine culinary arts in France for seven years (under Joel Robuchon!) and was operating a restaurant in Pasadena. We went to Maison Akira for his Sunday brunch. What a treat! For starters, there were dishes... More

Attentive, friendly service. We were welcomed as walk-ins just before the kitchen closed. The shrimp appetiser and apple tart dessert were particularly delicious.

Maison Akira has got to be my most favorite fancy French restaurant ever! If you want to indulge and don't mind splurging a little, then this is the place that you've been looking for. Their French onion soup tastes better than the one I tried in Paris, France. After all Chef Akira studied culinary arts from the top chefs in... More

We endured almost 2 hours in LA traffic to have what can only be described as an average dining experience. This place is extremely overrated. Everything we ordered tasted bland. We had 3 different entres that were all piled on top of the same mess of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The service was spotty. Save your time and money... More

Spotty service andwhat small portions were drawbacks to an otherwise enjoyable dining experience. Nearly every table was filled with seemingly content diners yet there was a very low noise level. In fact, the decor and atmosphere make this one of the most xelegant restaurants we have found in Pasadena. Food was well prepared pecisely as requested and was very flavorful.... More
