La Mie is terrific and such a surprise when you enter! The pastries, breakfasts, and lunches are tasty and interesting. The staff is kind even though the place is packed. The cramped space is the only reason I wouldn't give La Mie an "excellent" rating. (There is extra space out in back on a summer day.) You order first when... More

This bakery is amazing! The pastries and breads are to die for. Also, they have a very unique selection of dishes, from quiche to sandwiches. Everything tasts so fresh, flavorful and delicious this is one of my favorite spots when I visit Des Moines.

I love stopping by here for a ham and cheese croissant or other fun pastry items. They have fun toppings like rhubarb, apricots, strawberries and many others. There is a great sandwich that is already made, it has cream cheese, pesto, sprouts and avocado, delicious. Many other sandwiches. Bacon and banana French toast is good, as is the berry French... Fab fresh food, phenomenally reasonable prices, healthy, decadent, all ages enjoying themselves - it works and very well. First ate here last year and this return trip was just as good - t3 of us had a chicken salad sandwich, tuna salad sandwich and an avocado sandwich - all of us raved. Add a fruit tart to that and heaven!... More

Driven by for 10 years and stopped in today at the request of a client. Fab menu, cool set-up, pastries look great, and my asparagus quiche was tasty (be aware of the goat cheese). Latte served nicely. Great and helpful staff! I'll be back!

Returning to Des Moines, I was introduced to the unassuming, but wonderful, La Mie Bakery. Arriving to pick up pastries for breakfast, the inviting aromas gave me pause and made me wish that maybe we could stay. No luck there, unfortunately. The pastry choices were adundant, and each one tried received rave reviews by the family. I can't wait to... More

La Mie is hands down the best bakery in Des Moines as well as a top sandwich shop. You can eat at panera prices, but the quality is 5 times better. Pastries! The pecan roll is sticky, flakey, and worth every cent... maybe even worth dying for. The sandwiches are incredible. The vegetarian options are the best. Grilled Brie sandwhich... More

We stopped for lunch on a busy Saturday during a 9 hour drive. The food was excellent. I had the apple salad which had a lot of my favorite salad ingredients. My daughter is a vegetarian and was pleased with the number of vegetarian options. The serve yourself pastries were to die for. the prices of both our lunches and... More
