I've been here twice--both visits were on Saturdays for lunch--and had an enjoyable experience, overall, each time. The food is on the spicy side, which I thoroughly enjoy, but may be too spicy for some taste buds. Both times, for whatever reason, the fried items in the serving tray on the right by the plates were cold, but I rather... More

Wow, that buffet was amazing! I am definitely going again. They had a good variety of food to try, but the chicken masala was my favorite. If you do not like spice and good food, this isn't the place for you.

I grew up and lived in the UK where Indian food is very popular and frequently very good. Coincidently I've always had Indian or Pakistani work colleagues/friends and eating with them has shown me how Anglo-sized many Indian restaurants are. My wife and I cook Indian very regularly at home. We dig curries. We stopped at Taj for lunch one... More

We went there on a slow night. The good was good, but we had done problems with the server understanding we wanted everything gluten free and not just a dish or two. The service was slow, probably because he was chatting with two regulars. The foods was good; not spicy was not spicy. The cost was reasonable and I didn't... More

I have been to this place 9 or 10 times and have tried many dishes and have never failed to be pleased. It is amazing to have such consistently interesting and tasty food. The Saag Paneer is excellent. The vegetable samosas are great.family-run, authentic and DELICIOUS. Have taken many native Indians here and they all love, love, love the cuisine.... More

My Biryani had 2 bones in it, one was large (3/4 inch long) and to cap it off there was a black hair in it as well.

Four of us ate at Taj the other night and had a delicious meal with lots of variety. I love Indian food but don't claim to be as knowledgeable as some of the other reviewers. However, I know when I enjoy a meal and we have tried other places in the area and left disappointed. But not here. We had... More

I know I had my favorate Indian restaurants before. Taj is one of a kind with South Indian flare that no one else has in Maine! Their buffet is great with varity of vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes along with south indian special foods like Dosa, Vada, Pakora etc. For the vegetarian lovers try the Gobi Manchuria it is out... My husband and I had both great South Indian food when traveling through India and Malaysia. After many mediocre meals in Indian restaurants in Maine, we were absolutely amazed to find this culinary gem, located not in the foodie destination Old Port, but in the industrial area of South Portland. The menu features items that we never saw in any... More

We eat Indian food A LOT, and have a couple places we like, but Taj is hands down the best in the area. We usually go to Portland for one of the places there, but never again. I will happily drive the extra 5-10 minutes to SoPo for this gem. The chicken 65 was one of the best things I... More
