Description: Situated in leafy Lower Assendon, Luscombes is a welcoming small-town eatery that oozes old world charm. With its rustic furniture, warm neutral tones and cosy fireplace, the dining room is the perfect place to catch up with friends or enjoy a mid-week meal. While the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, the menu clearly means business. Chef-patron Stephen Luscombe is passionate about locally sourced produce and his menu features classic British dishes like duck breast with pearl barley; saddle of spring lamb with gnocchi; and chicken liver parfait with coriander toast. For dessert, dont miss the chocolate fondant with a melting caramel centre a real treat for chocoholics! With friendly service and an excellent wine list on offer too, Luscombes never fails to impress.

I had heard so much about the Golden Ball, thought it was time to try it. Squid salad with truffle dressing, the salad was limp and socked in very heavy dressing. Fillet of beef over cooked , tough and stringy. Pana cotta tasteless, ice cream refrozen (crystallized ) . Wine poor selection and over priced. Only 1 waiter on, he... More

We went here on a Friday night for a quick bite to eat been many years before and it was fab. Unfortunately this time the service was not quite good enough for the price we paid, it seemed almost disjointed. It was very quite for a Friday night and it was shame as the interior is lovely but the ambience... More

My girlfriend and I were looking for a pub for a quick drink and to rest our weary feet after a long walk yesterday afternoon. I suggested the Golden Ball as we were 5 minutes drive from there. This place has changed in the 15 years or so since I last visited and we weren't disappointed. A cold beer and... More

We eat at the Golden Ball relatively often because we know the food standard is very high and the place is quirky and beautiful - especially if you can sit in the garden. This time we had the crab/avocado salad and the fresh asparagus/pink grapefruit salad for starters - both were fresh, delicious and tasty. For mains we both had... More

I knew we should had left the moment we arrived..... the 80s lift music should have warned us We orders two mains and the "starters" that arrived we ok, but not equal to the price tag. Each of us had a small square of fish, under mine enough caggage to make a doormouses bed hid. The addition of an "optional"... More

We booked for a meal at short notice on Easter Sunday evening and was surprised to get a table. The restaurant was about 1/2 full. The overall quality of the food was very good but a couple of things did tarnish the experience. In this sort of establishment I would not expect the side plate to be chipped or the... More

Friends invited us to Luscombes last evening. I had looked at web site for directions, menu, background etc. I thought the location sounded wonderful, Henley, a country road, great views. Reality did live up to the descriptions. However, the same cannot be said of the food & service. Cramped, amateur and disappointing. 3 words that hopefully give you all you... More

We love the food at the Golden Ball - simply the best round Henley. This time we went on a Sunday but they offer great alternatives to a roast so we had the sole and the chicken legs for mains - the sole dish was DELICIOUS!! My husband was happy with the chicken legs dish. Both came with a mix... More

I visited this restaurant with a large group of around 20 people on a Tuesday evening, the service was excellent with champagne on arrival. The crayfish salad was delicious, and the steak was one of the best I have ever had. Very good atmosphere and a lovely restaurant. Would recommend.

Had lunch with my wife and son, not been here for years. Food for all courses was delicious and hot where needed, plenty of vegetables with main course. Staff attentive, but could seem sometimes a little too quick. very relaxing, no push to finish, though was not packed but very busy. Would go back again, maybe tray another day/time to... More
