I've been there a lot and found the quality declining. Last time I ordered to go with tea but they gave me none. The food is ok, you find better ones everywhere. The price is reasonable. Raw fish is fresh

Our lunch today was at Zen Japanese Cuisine. We all ordered bento boxes, my sister N. and I of soft-shell crabs, Pa of hibachi scallops, and Ma of hibachi salmon.
Japanese food is supposed to be in small servings where quality and freshness and appearance (food arrangement) is emphasized over quantity and value. The problem with Japanese restaurants in America...

Last weekend we were visiting Livingston NJ and needed to find a restaurant that could serve our party of 7. We checked trip advisor and decided to give Zen a try. The people running the restaurant tried very hard to accommodate us on a very busy night at their restaurant. We had pre-determined our menu picks and gave them to...

Located in an unpromising, second rate, tired looking plaza, this place is a reasonable find in what seems to be a culinary desert. We sampled a wide range of sushi and appetisers. These were rated as alright to good, but not better than good.

Sushi here is good - not great, not bad - average to above average. Place is clean, smells good, nice music in background.
To echo the reviewer below, however, the service is bad.
And, of course, you can blame it on the owner. She is flat-out cold and obnoxious, and that attitude works its way down to the servers.

We usually go to Nikko when we are hungry for sushi, but decided to give Zen a try one day when Nikko was closed. We had seen Zen listed on some Top NJ lists, and took our out of town friends for lunch. What a mistake! The restaurant was dark, the tables and chairs were dirty, and the menu had...

Best sushi we've ever tasted. Fresh and taste great. Wasabi roll is our go-to roll. Can get very crowded on Fri and Sat nights. Come here for lunch to truly appreciate your first time.
I have been to some of the best Sushi restaurants in NYC and I always come back to Zen and wonder why the heck I would continue to pay the prices in the City when I have some of the best sushi ever right in my back yard. The sushi at Zen is fresh and the rolls are inventive. I...

This is a very popular sushi restaurant, and well deservedly. The sushi is fresh and well-made, the service is excellent, and the prices are reasonable. It is also a BYO. Very popular among the locals.
