Casual atmosphere, indoor / outdoor eating, delicious coffees, breads, cheeses. Warm items are seasonal and change often. Bakery on site with yummy fresh goods to take with you. Great for families. Had Mother's Day brunch there and loved it. Have also had dinner there, and thought it was superb. A nice way to taste a bit of Germany here in...

I went for lunch, and the setting is very charming with plenty of seating and a lot of sunlight. The beer selection was also promising (being an advocate of German beer). The food came promptly, and the bread was fresh and perfectly baked. I had the apple and brie sandwich with the lentil soup. It was very good, but my...

Had the shitake mushroom omelet and espresso for breakfast. Wasn't too impressed with the food and pricing (think tapas for breakfast), but the atmosphere inside and out made up for the average food. Nice servers and a low-key atmosphere.
After going through ravishing reviews about this restaurant, it definitely deserved a visit. I ordered egg Benedict with cappuccino.. Though It was delicious but it wasn't fulfilling enough- thats coming from a person with an average appetite ;) the restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. It's a self service restaurant, from water to cutlery to your orders. If you're...

...because the inside human traffic is poorly managed and the wait staff is snitty, slow, and lazy. The menu changes - we prefer to go in the winter when they serve beef tips - so you may hit on some interesting choices, but the best food is in the bakery attached.
This is my second trip to Guglhupf. Food was excellent, price moderate, waitress knowledgeable, although she was a little inattentive.
I had a pork special that was stuffed with homemade sausage. Very good and a large portion.
My wife had the house made noodles tossed with a sauté of winter greens, shiitake mushrooms, she loved it.
Probably about 50% of...

North Carolina friends introduced us to Guglhuph last September. I've not been to Germany, but have been to dinner at German friends over the years, like the hearty cuisine, and have tried it in restaurants in Chicago, NY, and Savannah (which has a long established German population). At Guglhupf I asked for what they did best and had the wlener...

I was really excited when I heard there was a German bakery here in Durham. Unfortunately, what we got, was Guglhupf cafe. It is American food given a German name. Don't hope for an authentic good old German bakery with lots of cake.
Located on Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd.
Ample parking.
Huge outdoor seating area. Informal decor.
Fast pleasant service.
Three of us went for dinner. My wife had the fried oysters over greens, my mother had the mussels, and I had the swordfish special. We split the chocolate torte dessert. The swordfish and the mussels were excellent. The fried oysters were over-breaded and...
