Unfortunately, we waited until our last day in Akumal to try Gynn'AK. It was, hands down, the best meal of our trip. Lionfish tacos were insanely delicious, as were the chicken curry burritos. I can't imagine why there aren't more Thai-Mexican fusion restaurants. The combination makes complete sense. So, the ambiance (outdoors, patio table and chairs, but with plenty of... More

If you are within driving distance of this side of the road dive, DO NOT MISS EATING HERE. We had second thoughts when we realized this is really a collection of plastic tables clustered in the side yard of a house on a residential road, but tried it out anyways based on TA reviews. What an excellent decision - this... More

Neat little place on the side of the road, look close or you'll miss it! The lionfish is interesting, and the curry combinations were good. We ate here on our 1st day in Akumal, where we learned that this area is generally cash only (except for the bigger restaurants like La Buena Vida). And don't pay with "foreign" currency unless... Lionfih is not commercially available as it needs to be speared and is a treat not to be missed. The Thai/Mexican fusion results in a unique and delicious blend of spices and flavors. The restaurant is by the side of the road and doesn't look like much, but we ended up coming back and coming back again. Try the lionfish... More

We came here after several recommendations from fellow travelers over the years. The fresh lionfish and shrimp tacos we had were very good, though much more pricey than for similar fair at street site restaurants in Tulum village.

We ate here twice while on a week stay in Akumal and tried the lionfish tacos. Unfortunately we didn't like them. I believe it was the lionfish which I was hoping to like cooked so that it would become a dish people would eat. Both times we did take away and that was handy. I would try this place again... More

Had 2 great meals in this restaurant - both excellent value and amazing flavours - who would have thought to combine Mexican and Thai ?! Spring rolls chicken coconut curry and pad thai were favourites and the lion fish fillet was a new one for us. Staff worked their socks off, cooking and serving - very friendly. Just a few... More

Thai/Mexican fusion. Never thought of it myself, but soooo glad Gynna did. This was some of the BEST food I had in Akumal. Tried a bunch of different menu items, every single one of them was fantastic. I've never eaten lionfish before, it was super good. I had no idea lionfish were an invasive species to this area and that... More

When traveling you go to some restaurants for the fine cuisine, some for their notoriety or a celebrity chef, some just for good eats and then there are those that you go to for an experience. This is Gynn'AK. Overall we found the food to be average but the concept, the atmosphere and the speciality of the house are all... More

The chef/ owner has a very interesting biography which adds to the unique menu & dining experience. The Lionfish ceviche & Thai slaw are outstanding.
