Description: It all started back in 1967 when Sicilian born Giovanni Smecca decided to move to Galveston, Texas from Patterson, New Jersey after hearing Glen Campbell’s famous “Galveston” during a card game. Giovanni always dreamed of being a professional fisherman, so he decided to give it a shot and made the drive to Galveston. After battles of sea sickness, Giovanni quickly decided that the fish business wasn’t for him.Heartbroken, Giovanni was about to move back to New Jersey when he met Mario Bonaccorso who was trying to open a pizzeria. The two became great friends, and together, these two young Italian entrepreneurs started Mario’s Flying Pizza and brought the “pizza pie” to Galveston Island.Today, we are still family owned and operated and are considered a delightful, neighborhood restaurant with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We serve a wide variety of Italian cuisine and New York style pizza and strive to use fresh, seasonal, ingredients wherever possible, so come on in, sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a nice glass of wine at Mario’s Ristorante!

Great service, amazing deserts, good food, and nice overlook of beach. Gelato is to die for! Pretty patio. Great for groups or a special date.

We were reading the reviews and needed a place where they kids would be welcome and actually eat something. We had a great time. The staff was all friendly and helpful. They will through pizza dough to your kids if you go up were they make the pizza, then your kids have something to play with until the meal gets... More

"Daniel" was absolutely the BEST waiter we have EVER had in ANY restaurant. Daniel was very polite, attentive, but not overbearing, and possessed the manners we expect from a young man in Texas. Kudos to his parents for raising such a fine young man. Seafood stuffed mushrooms were delicious. We shared a 12" pizza that was yummy!

We wanted Italian so and Mario's had a good reputation - we were disappointed. Restaurant was clean and large. Service was good. But the food was just average, and the menu was a little misleading. Ordered the Stuffed Chicken Daniella. The description does not mention that the chicken is first deep fried and then covered with a heavy, creamy sauce.... More

We always read reviews and ask locals for dining suggestions when traveling so we were excited to try Mario's. First, we were disappointed for find room temperature food on the buffet. Second, my son's pizza (which was delivered after others who had ordered after us) came so late that everyone else had finished their meal when his arrived. And lastly,... More

The pizza at Mario's is very good. For quite a while, husband was picking it up after work on a weekly basis (as well as going there to eat lunch on occasion) and bringing it home for dinner. Sadly, I think husband was put off the last time he went to pick up a pizza and was for the first... More

Mario's has been around almost as long as we've been married (46 years)! And we don't make a trip to Galveston without eating pizza on 61st. We are native Houstonians and sometime drive to Galveston just to eat pizza. Our son and two grandsons have grown up eating at Mario's. We feel like we know the wait staff personally --... More

This absolutely is the best Pizza we have ever eaten. Its fun to watch the pizza being hand tossed and I found it really fun to watch the young children get raw dough to play with while they waited for their dinner. Wonderful place and should be on every one's list of restaurants to visit while in Galveston.

Mario's is the next best thing from being at home. You always feel very welcome and the staff is outstanding! My family goes to Mario's at least once a week. We love the pizza and every dish is excellent. Have not eaten anything I did not love!
