Found this spot after arriving from a long drive; service was good, beverages were good, and food was great. Had a nice meal & would go back again. Was easy to find & was a nice spot to relax.

Straightforward food at reasonable price though the poor waitress was rushed off her feet. Busy with people waiting for tables.
The Thirsty Whale is an ideal environment for any occasion, I recently celebrated a Family birthday where we shared a gorgeous 3 course meal together, The staff were faultless offering expertise advice on beverage choices to accompany our meal whilst showing the same attention to the younger children to ensure everyone was looked after during our evening.

This was an interesting place. The restaurant is downtown and easy to get to from anywhere in Bar Harbor. I thought the food was good but the service was just OK. It may have been a bad day, but we almost felt like we were bothering people by being there. I would love to go back during a better time,...

I love the Thirsty Whale--it is homey and comfortable and the service is friendly. The seafood is excellent--amazing haddock and outstanding homemade clam chowder. This is a great place for a beer and a Maine lunch.
I had an Allagash White draft which was superb to go along with my Super Haddock Sandwich...very fresh and cooked perfectly plus friendly wait staff and only a short wait after ordering.
Reasonable , filling ample meal. Simple fare done well. Had the Classic fried haddock sandwich with sweet potato fries.. Fish was delivered hot , cooked to perfection.
Although this visit was a brief one, we had to stop for lunch at the Thirsty Whale! I usually have the blackened haddock sandwich but this time I selected a fish wrap with chipotle mayo and it was delicious! My husband had a blackened blue cheeseburger with bacon and he enjoyed every last bite! Service is always great, prices reasonable...

By far the creamiest New England chowder and the best fried clams anywhere. Great pub for drinks, lunch or dinner with helpful and welcoming young staff. Right in th eheart of Bar Harbor.
OK, fried pickles don't sound all that enticing or amazing ... but they were delicious!
Service was fast and friendly.
To be honest, I think we ordered unwisely. We both ordered a "Fisherman's Plate", a fried assortment of haddock, scallops, shrimp and clams. This would have been better as a share plate - it was way too much fried food...
