Our family of three after visiting two schools in Boston arrived in Portland, hungry tired and somewhat irritable. When were were told Al Forno was a short cab ride away, we were off and fortunate to beat the rush at 7:00 pm on a Friday evening. The staff, the food, and being there were perfection. I have been cooking from... More

Finally got to this restaurant after want to go for many years. The two of us waited for a table for over an hour on a busy Saturday night in late April. Bar seats opened up upstairs where we were lingering, so the bartender asked if we wanted the seats. We took them happily. Hubby and I shared a Caesar... More

I have been to Al Forno over 100 times since 1989, when my wife and visited the original location across the city. The food is always good. The pizzas are a must app. The sausages and meats are first rate and the cooked to order desserts are always amazing. I am mindful of the fact that some critics have had... More

al forno was suggested by a lovely hair stylist who did wonders with my son's helmet hair (that's another review!) and we were not disappointed. the place is lovely - you enter through vine covered arbours (sadly denuded in april, but am sure is fabulous in summer) and are seated in at tables in dark, dimly lit rooms. service is... Headed to Providence with our college-bound child last weekend. Had been advised to make Al Forno a top priority so attempted to make our way there on a very rainy, heavily trafficked Friday evening and got hopelessly lost after being misdirected by the Concierge at our hotel. Called Al Forno because even our GPS/iphones were confused, and not only did... More

Well-known and popular, there are no reservations. The eggplant with buffalo mozzarello came in a truly "meaty" tomato concasse sauce! Delicious! The famous brick oven pizza was ultra thin and delicious as well. the pepperoni was slicing style and very flavorful. The table for two was not big enough for two! My shoulder was against the wall yet my right... More

I have been to almost every restaurant in the state of RI and enjoy fine dining ....after years of hearing how good Al forno and how it came across as a premiere restaurant I was excited to go finally. Ambiance is great, nice atmosphere, everyone who works there is poorly dressed and looks sloppy. They say us upstairs again great... More

While visiting Providence for a girl's weekend, we had a delicious meal at Alforno. We had heard how highly rated it is nationally and also knew that they do not accept reservations for smaller parties - so we got there for an early dinner and definitely had the meal of our trip! It was hard to choose what to order,... More

My husband and I went to Al Forno last night to celebrate a special occasion (our two March birthdays), hoping to have a fun, relaxing evening and great food. While the food was good, our evening at Al Forno was anything but fun and relaxing! We knew that this restaurant did not take reservations for parties of less than six,... More

Although Al Forno is pricey, I try to make it there when I travel to Providence. The menu is challenging, bringing together unusual combos, but the dishes people in my party have tried work and are memorable. Alas, for the last 15 years, I've stopped experiementing, since I find the 'dirty steak' (Delmonico steak cooked on coals) delicious and unique.... More
