We were in Newport RI and decided to go back to The Mooring. We had not been there for 6 years but it was the same delicious seafood. We ordered the little seafood fritters and they were hot and excellent and the sauce was really good. I love the way they serve them in a brown lunch bag and the... More

We were there for lunch and each of us got something different--and we were all impressed by the outstanding preparation and the freshness of ingredients. Add to that sitting on the deck viewing the bay---a terrific treat.

Ordered the Classic Clam Chowder broth and amount of clams was good. Potatoes in the chowder were hard and not cooked. That made what would have been a great bowl of New England chowder nearly inedible.

Every time we go to Newport, we can't wait to get to The Mooring. They have such a great bar, it's always a highlight of our trip. You must try the scallop chowder! Even on the hottest summer days, it's always perfect. Get a good seat at the bar and you'll never leave!

We went at the Mooring because of its ranking on this site. First night (Saturday) it was full until 22:30 and we didn't have a reservation. They booked us for Sunday at 21:00, first next availability. Lesson learned, make a reservation prior your arrival. Food was good. It is a higher end restaurant with lots of details in the quality... Amazing restaurant right on the water! We sat outside on the back patio (it was covered) for dinner. We had a perfect view of the sunset while enjoying a fantastic meal. The bag of doughnuts are to die for! I will definitely be back next time I am in town!

We went to The Mooring for dinner and it was absolutely wonderful. Our waiter presented us with an electronic tablet so we could place our own beverage orders. Never have seen that before in a restaurant, but it worked well. Our drinks came within minutes after ordering them. After taking our dinner orders, the waiter brought over a paper bag... More

Based on the reviews of others, we tried the bag of doughnuts and they were delicious. They are served warm in a small brown paper bag and contain bits of shrimp, lobster and crab in a doughy fritter. Delicious. We enjoyed a simple dinner of fish and chips along with a red pepper slaw. Everything was hot and tasty. One... More

One of the best dinner decisions we made while in Newport! Restaurant itself is lovely and inviting. Plenty of staff who take great care of customers. Food was delicious. The best part of the night was when my husband discovered that they had bag of donuts on their menu! Living in the south, I'd never heard of them...but my northerner... More

I've been going to the Mooring for several years now and have had some great meals there. Unfortunately, this year the food has been very uneven - especially the scallop chowder which, in prior years, was sublime! On a visit earlier this year, the scallop chowder was gloppy from too much cornstarch (poor man's "thick" chowder) and this weekend the... More
