A great West Coast Pub. Usual pub grub. Nice friendly people. Outside beer garden with fish pond. Good for kids.

We had the Fisherman's Platter and is was evident that the fish was frozen and of poor quality. Very expensive for what you get.
We happened to be freedom camping across the street at a DOC site so dinner here was a no-brainer and it was the only place in town. The tavern itself has very nice staff, they even informed us when we put in our order that they were backed up in the kitchen so it might take a little longer. No...

We did not stay in the accommodation at the Tavern, just went there for an evening meal after a recommendation. It is not like you are eating at a five star restaurant, but neither are the prices. The staff are friendly and helpful. Nice to sit down and have a relaxing drink and order a meal. We both enjoyed ours...

I first visited the Punakaiki Tavern with my parents in October '12. It was highly refreshing, after a week on the road sampling amazing Kiwi hospitality, to finally be able to take my parents to somewhere hilariously hideous. The staff were curt, and quite rude. My mother ordered the steak well done, and when the meals came out, it was...

It seemed to be one of perhaps three places to eat. The food was what one would expect from a tavern. The beer was cold. All in all I was happy with the evening. The staff were pleasant enough. We were quite a large group and the furniture is very heavy so they brought in extra chairs to help out.
There may be a few motorcycles parked in the car park but this ain't that kind of place. It is really friendly, very comfortable with great people.
Oh, they also have great food and beer and wine. When we arrived for dinner the inside tables were full so we took an outside table. When a table opened up Kathy actually...

The know they have your business being the only place to eat. Our food was deep fried frozen rubbish, served by rude people. The old man with a bald head and big beard is vile. Avoid this place at all costs. You have been warned.
The Tavern was very busy when we went but our hosts at Kallyhouse B&B had booked us in so we had a table. Despite being busy, we didn't wait long for our dinner, which we were both very happy with - good portion sizes, very tasty food. The staff were run off their feet but were still friendly.
Went here for dinner. I would say average meals that were overpriced for what they were. A $14.50 "salt and pepper squid" consisted of 4 deep fried frozen squid rings and a small salad. I would call that a rip off. Friendly enough service. I think they could do better and take advantage slightly of the fact that they are...
