Sunday morning the line is out the door. Good breakfast and lots of chatty company. You'll get an earful. Service with a smile.
We stopped in for lunch at this small and cozy little restaurant. The soup was good and a great value. The desserts were delicious! There were couple of tables outside and since the sun was shining we sat out in the street and looked at the view of the Abbey.
Our experience, so delightful, we went back the second day. The staff was very helpful and accommodating and the food delicious. We highly recommend, if you are in Cong, Ireland, or staying at Ashford Castle, don't miss The Hungry Monk. The food is high quality, fresh, well prepared and moderately priced.
Found in Rick Steve's & Trip Advisor. The lunch was excellent. And the desert was even better. Nice ambience and very good service. Definitely would recommend & I definitely go back again!!

My husband and I just returned from our 4 night honeymoon at Ashford Castle and we found the Hungry Monk to be one of the local gems! The food was delicious and with gluten friendly options - a great perk for those who are sensitive to it. A wonderful, cozy atmosphere as well.
The Hungry Monk is a lovely café. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is really good. A nice range and really excellent sweets. Very reasonably priced and relaxing atmosphere. There is also free wifi in the café, as well as a book exchange for travellers.
We arrived in Cong Co. Mayo, after driving through from Galway, ready for a light lunch. The Hungry Monk was simple, clean, welcoming and inexpensive and we had an enjoyable meal. We had wondered where we would park the camper, we were lucky at this time of the year, holidays were all done in Ireland so we had plenty of... More
