Rustic saloon and restaurant in keeping with the general ambience of this historic little town. We ate there for breakfast and dinner during our two day stay in McCarthy since it was the only dining place still open in a town that starts shutting down in September. Maybe six items on the menu, but we were never disappointed. Nice variety... More

The burgers were a welcome item after camp food for a couple days. Beer is pricey but what the heck, it's the wilderness! Great atmosphere and good people always trying to make you feel at home. Definate return visit!

You step in the door and feel like you are back in the days of miners. Although not the original bar, a classic none the less. Amazing beer selection and the food was simple delicous. Such a diverse menu for being a tiny town with no paved streets. Menu changes regularly and we were so excited to go each night... More

Dear Camiller383: Thanks for taking the time to review our Golden Saloon! The old bar was moved to it's current location about 40 years ago, a few hundred feet from where it originally was located. So while not the original location of the bar, (and one front section was rebuilt) the bar is the original Golden Saloon. All the artifacts... More

Every night of the the 4 nights we were in McCarthy we went to the Saloon, either for dinner and/or drinks and to enjoy the fun, lively crowd. The food was good and lots of variety of beer. It is easy to get to know the local residents here and to learn about the history of the area. Kim, a... More

Fun bar (ok, the only bar) in McCarthy, but definitely worth a stop. The seasonal locals convene on the porch, and all of their dogs wander around while they drink. Its a unique experience, and everyone is incredibly friendly.

Great setting in remote AK - service was friendly and the food and beer was great! We had the buffalo burger and Alaska Amber beer on tap. It is pricey, but everything in remote AK is . . .

The people were nice, and the place was great. Such history and such a fun crowd. They also have a great selection of beer! Everyone there knows each other, and they have open mic night on Thursdays! Great time!

Food was just average. I heard their restaurant next door is nicer/more expensive. We were there around 8:15 and they said the dining room was closed so we went to the Golden Saloon. Then we were seated next to a group of off-key, loud guitar playing singers. Did I mention they were loud and off-key? One of the few places... More

Great dinners! We stayed for 3 nights in McCarthy and had dinner at the Golden Saloon each night, with different menu items. All were fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere was charming - an authentic "Old West" experience. Considering the remoteness of McCarthy, prices were reasonable for what we got. Many activities in the McCarthy, Kennicot area... More
