"In my previous review of la Brochette I promised a second visit - with other guests. So five of us, each with different tastes, went for lunch.
As before, all of the meat and fish skewers were perfectly cooked. The tagliatelli was properly 'al dente'; however, the frîtes/chips/french fries should..." have been drained more (too oily) - even though they were tasty (and obviously home-made). The short wine list is excellent value.
The chef has tried to make sweets that are a little bit different. However, the idea of serving everything on a skewer (the signature of the restaurant) is here pushed beyond the limits. Fresh fruit portions, gateaux, cannelles, etc on skewers is skewering taken too far - however good the food itself (these items were served chilled or warmed rather than grilled). The coffee was excellent. The service, as before, was friendly and helpful without being obtrusive - ie excellent. (English spoken).
Despite the minor quibbles, still recommended.

"For many years this was one of our favourit restaurants in Saint Georges de Didonne but a change of chef lead to a couple of very poor meals & we stopped going. Some friends went recently & raved about it so we thought we would give it a try again. What a transformation.
The menue is not extensive ..."but the food is top notch. If the only thing you try is the trio of goats cheese you will certainly leave a happy diner. It is superb. We had the pork to follow & the whole plate was cooked to perfection. The desert capped it all off. absolute delight.
Yes les begonias is back on our list. And all for 20 euros each!!

"This is my second visit to this restaurant and it has confirmed to me that this is really worth a visit if you are in the area. The cuisine is Basque, whether it is authentic or not I am not able to judge, but the standard of cooking is very good and the quality of the ingredients excellent. The res..."taurant is down some steps and built into the side of the sea wall, which makes it easy to miss if you are just passing by. The first time we went there it was by accident, as its, almost, identical neighbour was shut.
The interior is nicely decorated and there is seating inside and out on a terrace overlooking the beach. Both have lovely views of the estuary as well as the sand bay that sweeps round to Royan. The staff were very attentive and helpful when we asked about some items on the menu. The there was a good selection of dishes, with an emphasis on sea food. The baby squid started was the best I've had anywhere. The main thing about the restaurant was the sense you get that what ever...
