"We read an earlier review about "run down and ropey" well you can see what sort of place it is as soon as you pull up, this is not a classy joint !
What it is is quirky and full of character which is hard to find these days, my wife and i were on holiday and this was our 2nd attempt to get here as ..."the snow in Feb prevented that happening.
The barmaid was a breathe of fresh air, down to earth and a good laugh, we ordered sausage and mash and my wife had the huge burger with chips, everything was very tasty and we ended up with 2 clean plates, the beer and cider`s were above average to what you get in "normal" pubs.
At the end of the day where else would you find a guy who looked like cat weasel sitting under a frilly lampshade reading a book having a pint !
This is a pub where one should go to experience as they are a dying breed. Look forward to returning.

"Having booked in advance, we visited with a party of 11 to celebrate our (low key) wedding day. Collette's welcome was very warm and we all felt looked after. The food was great, a lovely big steak pie for the adults, sausage and chips for the children and a plate of nibbles for our toddler. As e..."ver the service was excellent, the food was fantastic and the beer was well kept.

"My partner and I decided to visit whilst on a two night mini break nearby and as we were looking for somewhere good to eat, checked out Tripadvisor. We weren't disappointed. The pub itself is traditional and cosy, the clientele a mix of locals and visitors, mostly enjoying the food, real ales and..." general ambiance. The food menu is not extensive, dont expect a la carte but then its not that sort of place anyway! Its real home cooking with good portion sizes and something to suit all but the fussiest eater.
What really sets this little gem of a pub apart is the genuine welcome from Colette and her staff, the place has a real buzz about it and as a live music venue, it is renowned in the area.
We'll definitely be keeping an eye on the Barley Mow's website and artist list as we plan to come back before the summer's out
