"The vineyard was just down the road from the Lodge where we stayed and we had a fabulous lunch and wine tasting. The Bordeaux style wines were better than any wines we had last year during our 3 weeks in Bordeaux, France. They do a vertical tasting of 4 consecutive years and each one was great with..." its own special characteristics. The food at the restaurant was a feast for the eyes. We particularly enjoyed the spanner crab salad served on a wasabi mousse, garnished with radishes and salmon caviar. We also enjoyed tiny scallops served with a pineapple curry, mauka and oak smoked salmon with a horseradish cream and apple and verjus chutney. The only dish that I was not overwhelmed by was the pulled pork terrine, with celeric remulade and pickled grapes probably because i would have liked the pork to have a hint of chilie.

"I love Italy: the food, the people, the food, the food! The lunch we had at Poderi Crisci was fabulous and was better than any of the lovely restaurants that we experienced last year during our month in Tuscany. We had cancelled a reservation there a few days before due to a conflict and reschedul..."ed lunch for a Monday. We were the only guests and instead of turning us away they prepared an amazing lunch. Our waiter was the most informative and entertaining waiter that we have experienced in many years. We were encouraged not to order from the menu but to sit back, relax and let the chef prepare a special menu for us. While waiting for the first course our charming waiter showed us around the winery, into the vineyard and talked about the various vintages.
We started with tostinos of duck prosciutto (made in house) with thinly sliced parmesan cheese drizzled with truffles and olive oil (harvested from the olives grown on site). Next was the ensalada Caprese and even though it w...

"The "Long Lunch Sundays" at Peacock Sky winery are a must if you are visiting Waiheke in the off season. Connie, one of the owners, comes from an Italian background and she has the ability to create a warm and intimate party for total strangers. By the time we finished the 3 hour lunch we had made..." friends with the people around us. There was lovely jazz music that accompanied the lavish lunch with Chardonany and a Merlot Malbec from the winery. The menu included a variety of dips, oil and chutneys accompanied by local bread, pumpkin ginger soup, caprese salad with bocconcini cheese, new zealand green lipped mussels in Chardonnay broth, grilled chicken in garlic and Mediterranean meatloaf topped with caramelized onions, salad and rice. The dessert was a yummy tiramisu.
All the courses were delicious, but perhaps not the fine dining that is so prevalent at Waiheke. However the atmosphere was great and we would go back again.
