"Even though the name is a littlebit misleading, The cut just sounds like another ordinary steakhouse, it offers way more than I expected. Living for quite some time in Beijing we started recently reading more and more in local magazines about the cut and its new chef so we decided to finally give it..." a try and see what Fairmont Beijing and its Cut has to offer.
We were warmly welcome by the service staff just at the elevator and directly brought to the seat. After choosing a cocktail from their specially designed pre dinner drinks list (did you know you could drink balsamic vinegar???) we started to study the foood menu. The selection of the dishes is very wide and all of them sound absolutely delicious. "Lush is a great place to drink beers taking advantage of the happy-hour, eat good hamburgers, meet friends, take a rest surfing on the net, sleep if you arrive in Beijing in the middle of the night without a reservation for the night (Lush is open 24h), listen to good music or playing your own songs..." on Sunday's Open Mic Night. Lush is allways full of people and things to do, it's a little far from the center (about one hour on subway from Tiananmen) but it extremely worth the visit.

"Passby Bar is the bravest bar on Nanluogu Xiang. This place is hosted in an ancient hutong courtyard with walls covered with posters that reproduce maoist tazebao in a funny way. Red guards and pictures of Mao are printed near funny slogans like "Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder” or “Work is f..."or people who don’t know how to enjoy drinking beer” or again “Better drink than dead”. The bravery of this place is unbelievable in a country where freedom of thought is still rare. Attached to the bar-restaurant there is a shop where you can buy t-shirts and posters to bring home with you a rare piece of chinese freedom. Highly recommended.
