"I and a small group of friends were staying in the nearby Hotel de la Citadelle, and this restaurant is very conveniently located next to it. The location is stunning, with a beautiful view over the breathtaking estuary of the river Garrone. We came here at first - to sit outside - for a drink i..."n the evening as the sun was setting over the estuary. This was a lovely experience, and the waiter was so charming and helpful, that we decided to stay and eat. And, oh boy were we glad we did! In fact we had dinner there for three nights in a row we were so impressed by the standard of the cuisine. They have a varied and changing menu but, unsurprisingly perhaps, really excel at seafood. The wine list is also very tempting, with some excellent local wines and a smooth-as-smooth-can-be cognac. The owner and his team were unfailingly polite, friendly, welcoming and amusing and we could not have enjoyed ourselves more. If you are in or near Blaye, an evening here is a real must....

"We were recommended Le Gavroche by our B&B hosts. We were not disappointed.
The restaurant is tucked away in a side street, and not open every day - check before setting out - and also has limited covers (I counted only 24). It provides a relaxed dining atmosphere in a small restaurant.
We ord..."ered from the set menu. Starters were duck salad, and salmon with asparagus mousse. Both were well balanced plates of food, if a little on the large side for starters (that is a compliment, not a complaint). For mains we had duck and sea bass. The sea bass was very nice, and a good sized portion. The duck was also a good sized portion if a little overcooked, and a little more salty than I would have liked, but still very nice. Desserts were apple tart tatin, which was excellent, and profiteroles, which were very good. All washed down with a jug of red wine.
The total bill was a little over €50. Taking not account what we ate and drank, and the quality of it, this was good value. I would e...

"We stayed in Blaye for a few days primarily looking for wine experiences. Unfortunately, due to public holidays, most of Blaye was closed. About the only place open was Le Petit Port, so we ate there twice. On both occasions the food was good and reasonably priced.
One the first occasion we had v..."eal in cream sauce which was OK, and fillet of beef which was enormous and excellent. With beer, the bill came to about €35. Perfectly reasonable.
On the second occasion we had been on a tour of the vineyards, with a large lunch included, and didn't want a huge meal. We had seafood salad, which as it turned out was huge, and goat's cheese salad, which was OK. Again, with beer, the price was about €35.
This is not a 5* restaurant, and neither does it pretend to be. It serves up good basic food at a good basic price. As long as that is what you are hoping for and expecting you will not be disappointed.
