Excellent food and a special history. In a stongly divided community Huset was for both the managers and the workers. Huset has been home for a wide diverity of services: cafe, jewelery, kiosk, shop for clothes, hunsting and fishing gear (where the wardrobe is now), bridgeroom (now restaurant), the local choirs rehersal room (now wine cellar) school (first floor), home of the priest, cinema and post office.   "Longyearbuyen is probably one of the most unlikely places on earth where you would expect a world class restaurant. But really, that's exactly what Huset is. Very inventive and creative cooking, fine ingredients, top wines (they've got 22.000 bottles in the cellar). Great service too."
