The hotel is located on the Eastern side of Chalong Bay. The drive to the hotel was a bit of an adventure as the roads were not really confidence-inducing. The last few kms to the premises was through the rural and very quiet parts of Phuket including a rubber plantation and villages. At the entrance to the hotel, you need to drive down a steep slope to reach the main house where the lobby is.
The layout is very peaceful, homely and has a calming effect on you. Check-in was at the main house itself, non-A/C and very efficient. Attached to the lobby lounge and check in area are the open-concept dining areas, bar, library, Internet PC and corridor to the Junior Suite. We stayed the 1st half of our holiday in the Premium Rooms (located by the main road) and the shifted into the Junior Suite.
The Premium room was very nice and had an un-obstructed view to the sea. It really felt good and close to nature, waking up to the natural light and sounds. Although we were next to the main road, traffic noise was surprisingly nil. There was an outdoor bath/jacuzzi to the right of the balcony which we used every morning. We used the balcony area for our morning coffee and the peacefulness of the surroundings really enhanced to quiet getaway. The room’s A/C was very responsive to settings, king-sized bed was superb, bathroom was with rain-shower and strong, small pantry with a microwave was very useful when we bought cooked food from the local village market and had it while watching US Open tennis matches LIVE.
The Junior Suite was in another league of its own altogether! Located right next to the pool, the interior was simply awesome. The bathroom took the prize! A sunken pool (Jacuzzi), a large shower stall, 2 washbasins, …….. it was almost the size of the premium room! On the outside deck, there were 2 sun loungers for guests’ personal use. It was like having your very own private villa with a very good sized lap-pool!
Brekkie was served as set menus. Each morning as you enter the dining area by the pool, you’ll be asked to select your preferred choice of brekkie. Most of the time we had American, Healthy and Asian brekkies during our stay. If you wanted more (and you could finish it), they’ll be more then happy to feed you. We spent a lot of time dining by the pool at a very leisurely pace when we didn't drive out.
Internet was free via PC in the library or through your own device via WiFi. Speed was good and no interruptions noted. We didn’t use the SPA so can’t comment/
The beachfront had nothing much going for it. Sea was calm most of the time but it was not really for swimming. Lots of rubbish washed-up onshore, shallow & slightly muddy seabed didn’t really appeal to me.
I would return to stay at CLOUD 19 because it has so many points going for it. The peaceful, natural, serene environment and homely feel is the biggest draw albeit we stayed at the low season and there was only one other couple during our stay. The staff was always great and would take time to have a chat with you, suggesting places to eat & visit for the more adventurous.
