If you are young, single, like to drink, don't mind noise, and aren't yet used to the finer things in life... this is your place. The rooms are clean enough, the food is pretty bad (with the exception of the grilled fish at lunchtime), but let's be honest, you're used to bad food (or as you call it "McDonalds, KD and Kimchi noodles"). Make sure to bring at least $50 in american $1 bills for tipping when you want drinks at the bar ($1 makes a difference when there's a crowd at the bar) and it'll cost you about $5 to get a round of beers/cocktails after-hours at the sports bar.
The cleaning staff was pretty awesome, I would definitely suggest tipping them early (if you're too cheap to tip them properly everyday) to ensure you get taken care of properly.
If you don't travel much, go out a spend $5 on a luggage lock that you will use everyday to lock up valuables inside your suitcase (the safe in the room costs $4 / day to rent)... this is the same lock you will use when you check-in your bag at the airport.
If you have children, this is probably not an ideal place for you to bring them. There are often large crowds around the pool, usually really loud music playing and always really drunk people stumbling around. Also, there is a wet t-shirt contest (read: topless women dancing to music) every other afternoon.
I went with 4 friends for 6 days in mid-Feb 2012, it was nice to get away from Canada's cold winter for a bit. As someone who hasn't been in school for a while, and usually stays at MUCH nicer hotels and resorts... I felt that this resort was actually good value for the money. I won't be going back, but that's just me.
If you're going to leave the resort, there's a pretty cool party on Tuesday night at the Beach Club (behind Mandala Club), and 'The City' was a good time as well. DEFINITELY buy passes through the guys that wonder through the resort throughout the day. It's about $50/night to go out ($40 all you can drink + $10 service charge they call a 'tip'), but the parties at night on the resort aren't as fun. Also, cash is king, they accept cc's, but it's not the best option. ***I can't believe the amount of people that did not bring Identification with them when they left the resort. You don't need it to get into the clubs, but you do need it if you do end up using your plastic, or more importantly if you are in an unfavourable situation involving police, paramedics, or worse, it's better if your friends/family can find you.
You don't have to leave the resort every night, there was a foam party one night at the resort, a free concert another night (Melanie Fiona), and stripperesque go-go girls in the disco every night.
If this was the first resort I went to when I was graduating from high school, or while in university... I would have loved it. If you're looking for luxury, pay for it. If you're a couple looking for a romantic getaway, this probably won't be your cup of tea. If you think you 'might' be to old for this place, you most definitely are.
and I almost forgot... the beach is actually pretty nice... the slope into the water is very gradual (for those who aren't comfortable diving right in)... the water is warm enough, there is enough room to find a spot to layout, but you're still close enough to strike up a conversation with others.
I hope that helps!
