We stayed at the Circus Hotel in May 2011 for four nights and enjoyed every night. We had the economy double room which was 80 euros per night. The room was spacious enough, the bathroom was lovely (I especially loved the shower!), the decor was quirky and cool. I didn't like the pillows but that's the way they usually are in central Europe, the beds were comfy though. Our room faced the street which was pretty active but it didn't bother us. There's a chinese and kebap fast food stands downstairs and their smell can bother some guests if sleeping their windows open.

The breakfast buffet was 8 euros per person and included unlimited coffee or tea, one glass of juice, bread, fresh fruits, all sorts of muesli, cold cuts, boiled eggs, yoghurt, cheeses, croissants and so on. The restaurant that served the breakfast called Fabisch was very pleasant especially in the evening. There were live music two nights out of five. They serve classic cocktails that are pricey (about 8 euros) when you compare them to the other places for example in Mitte but in my experience they were also better. The food in the restaurant was good too even though they didn't have the meat my boyfriend wanted that was on the menu. I really like the concept that they use seasonal, regional and organic produce whenever possible.

The staff was very helpful and always friendly, they were talkative and their knowledge of Berlin was great. There are laptops, movies and guidebooks you can borrow from the 24-hour reception, as well as a whole lot of other things you might need. There were also an iPad free for people to use in the restaurant which was a fun idea. The room service is also free of charge.

I liked the ambience, the cleanliness, the decor and the restaurant best. The pillow is my only minor complaint.

I will be back in Circus when I get a chance!

Room tip: Economy double is roomy enough for most couples!

Stayed here after friend's recommendation. We got the apartment, which was probably too big for 2 people. But nevertheless, it was excellent. It was 2 floors and we had a kitchen, living area which doubled as second bed. The upstairs room was like a mezzanine which was spacious and light. The decor wasn't posh but I think it was the hotel's policy to be environmentally friendly and well-priced.
The 8 Euros buffet breakfast was beautiful. Good German fare and yummy.
Hotel was located in Mitte Scheunenviertel, which is perfect location for me, as close to trendy bars and restaurants, shopping district, and was a very safe, clean suburb. You are also next to the U-bahn, so easy access to transport, and walking distance to another trendy suburb, Prenzlauer Berg. In fact, if you are keen, you can pretty much walk to all the surrounding suburbs like Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain & rest of Mitte..which was what I did. Make sure you walk down nearby side streets of Auguststrasse, Alte Schonhause, Linienstrasse, Rosa-Luxenburgstrasse for local cafe life and interesting graffiti.
Staff were generally very helpful, friendly & approachable.

My fiancée and I stayed at the Circus Hotel for one week in August 2010.

It is a fantastic place in Berlin. You won't find anything similar in other European great cities for such a price range.

The service is great, with very kind and helpful staff available.

The location in Rosenthaler Platz is very good, just outside the subway stop.

The facilities feel modern and neat, attention is paid to every detail: exterior, hall, bedroom and bathroom.

The breakfast buffet is all right, with better options à-la-carte.

We stayed in a room facing the street, sleeping very well.

I wouldn't even consider a different place to stay in Berlin.

We stayed 4 nights in May in a good sized room (called "junior suite" but not really a suite) for 100 Euros a night. Breakfast was good and good value at another 8E a head. The hotel's restaurant has good food and excellent wines, again very reasonably priced. The location is central and the UBahn outside the door. The people are helpful and pleasant. There's internet access at reception if you don't have your laptop. It's really very good.

So is it perfect? Depends on when you are there, but if there's a heatwave you need to be a deep sleeper as your room will either be on the street or face the inner courtyard, where people sit outside and their noise reverberates. Or you can keep your windows shut. Unfortunately the Circus has bought into the German mania for Umweltfreundlichkeit and there's no air-con and last week I saw the temperature in Berlin was in the 80s. So go when the weather is cool

Room tip: Pay for a bigger room
