Venice was the first stop for me and my husband on our honeymoon in Italy, and what a way to kick off our honeymoon! We chose to stay at the Al Ponte Antico Hotel based on the stellar reviews found on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed...this hotel is amazing and lives up to the 5 star reviews! I don’t think I can adequately articulate the fabulousness of this hotel, its employees, and their very warm hospitality. The hotel's location is conveniently close to the Rialto Bridge but tucked away at the end of a quiet side street. The hotel has a private dock which made for easy arrival and departure via water taxi. We splurged and booked the Junior Suite, which has a large window that opens to the Grand Canal. This view is amazing! You are right on the water and have the best view of the Rialto Bridge and all the activity on the Grand Canal. The Junior Suite is quite large with a nice sitting area and desk by the window. The bathroom was a bit narrow and our room's walls seemed thin but these two issues were not enough of a bother to deter us from staying here again. In fact, I am dying to return to Venice and this hotel! Mateo, Rosalba, Oliver, Tommaso, etc., were so wonderful to us and made us feel so special. They all went above and beyond to make our stay a special one. Because it was our honeymoon, we were treated to a bottle of prosecco, which we enjoyed on our first night as we gazed out at our window at a moonlit Rialto Bridge and listened to the sounds of the passing boats and gondolas and the waves lapping against the hotel. Mateo was also so nice as to mail some letters for us back to the US. I think the best memories for us, which my husband and I still talk about, were those mornings spent on the terrace enjoying the most lovely breakfast in full view of the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge. Mateo's omelets were delicious, as was the rest of the buffet of fresh fruits, pastries, yogurts, etc. And sweet Rosalba always made sure my coffee cup was full. My husband and I still reminisce about those mornings, breathing the fresh morning air, watching the morning traffic on the Grand Canal, eating the most wonderful breakfast, and planning our day in beautiful Venice. It was truly a magnificent start to our honeymoon!More
