I have stayed here in a single room on at least 3 occasions.
It will cost me 64CHF for 1 single night next week.
Main advantage is that although this is a cheap, low grade hotel, you can check-in until the bar closes at 2-3am?. In other words, you are not paying for up-market reception, if your flight is late/delayed. Nice and central, walkable with trolley luggage from Hauptbahnhof.

One thing, an inexpensive hotel can provide well- is a decent cutover service. I had no expectations of Excellent Customer service from this hotel, as it is relatively inexpensive as compared to other hotels, but TOO expensive for what they provide.

1) Customer Service: I was aggresively shouted at by Mr. Gianni, who works in the bar there as a bar tender, just because I wasn't yet ready to order my drink. It was only in first 5 minutes of me entering the bar. He gestured me the WAY OUT of the bar as well.

2) I asked the dude at reception to check if they have any offers for students- he laughed out loud to say - Why do people fro YOUR COUNTRY AND RACE have to ask for offers?!!!!!

3) Underneath the Hotel is a bar, where loud youngsters party until late. They were louder than folks I've seen at Frat parties. Ended up sleeping at 4:00 am, and had to check out from the place at 11:00 am ( the check out time). So, didn't get a good sleep.

4) There was just ONE common bathroom + WC for the whole floor. When I went in to shower, it was stinking REAL BAD.

5) I complained about the customer service to the owner only to hear that there must have been some language barrier. Well, Come ON...shouting in all the languages means the same. Isn't it?

I am not surprised that this hotel is ranked as 115 out od 124 hotels in Zurich. But, I wonder, how bad the ones belonging to the category 116- 124 would be?!! It does send some chill thru my spines, honestly.

It was a very expensive hotel comparing to the service that this offers. We paid 110 Euros for night, for a double room, including city taxes 2.5. And the most bad, was that they did not accept change, but took 110 euro, instead of 110 franks. The room was clean but the american bar in the first floor, couldnt let you sleep.

The hotel was terrible. No lifts and no showers/wc in the rooms unless you pay extra.

It smells of urine and smoke all over the place and inside all rooms. It is NOT CLEAN at all, there were blood stains on the old carpet covered with a towel. The wc's are pretty bad and once you see the people staying there you really don't think of using them.

The management is clueless, they have no idea of online reservations and they don't recognise anything. They only accept payment upfront unlike all other establishments were you pay when you leave.

The piano bar is a joke, it's a filthy place and very seedy as well.

Avoid-avoid-avoid. There are dozens of hotels in the old town of Zurich, check them out. Most of them do not feature on online reservation lists (not even in the Zurich airports information desk hotel list). You will definitely find better. They advertise their rooms as 105S.Francs per night but that excludes the 5 Francs city tax that you only find out when you get there. It might be cheap but it's the principle that counts and says a lot about the place.

All in all, the Zurich 'old town' is pretty uninteresting. If you are on vacation in Switzerland there is really no reason to visit Zurich AT ALL. To give you an idea, the city bus tour has two highlights, a hotel (!!) where you sit outside and can take pictures (whatever!) and a church with stained glass windows from the 1970's (yes, 1970s). That's all there is to the old-town! nothing more, pointless to be honest! It's just like any busy town, very dirty, with beggars around and lots of over-expensive food/drinks.

Stay away from the bus tours as well, they are very unprofessional, grumpy and only talk in english (without asking if everyone speaks the language!). They use coaches which are closed on top and the overall experience is boring, uninteresting and shoddy as there are no monuments to look at, at all.
