My husband and I just returned from the Andaz. I'd give it a 5 for most everything -- location, customer service, and amenities. The only reason for my 4 score is the layout of the room. I was originally thinking "how cool and funky", but the sink right by the bed and the limited space for luggage (small closet) made me feel claustrophobic. The bed was very comfortable, the mini-bar and coffee appreciated, the shower very nice (though coming out of it was all too crowded), and the toilet room great with the Amsterdam history wallpaper. Even though I set the room for 65 F and put the fan on high, it never really go there, but it was comfortable nonetheless. The electricity was very confusing. I've had to use my room key to power the electric before, but getting lights and the coffee maker to turn on when I wanted them was a challenge!

The location was excellent if you want to be on the canals and walk to your destinations. I felt we were perfectly centrally located in a wonderful neighborhood. Very, very nice. The customer service was excellent at check-in, when we needed a restaurant suggestion and reservation, and upon check-out when we learned we could pay a flat airport fee that would be charge to our room.

We didn't eat in the restaurant, but did have a drink at the bar and explored the spa and garden. The hotel is very "funky", if you will, and, even though modern and new, it felt very much like an Amsterdam experience.

I highly recommend it!

Room tip: We had a room overlooking the garden which may have helped keep the noise level down.

The Andaz is a total immersion in Dutch culture both historically and presently. The place abounds with beauty and creativity. It is truly a special place that must be experienced. The visual experience is fully matched with the highest level of comfort with attention to every detail. The staff is enthusiastic and sharp.

Stayed for 2 nights in a canal view room and loved it. You feel like in a New York loft apartment in the inner centre if Amsterdam. Breakfast is playful and plentiful. Would stay again no questions asked. Bed is super comfortable and pillows simply heaven.

A Luxury hotel, very comfortable from all aspects, excellent service, outstanding staff, good location, very central. The hotel has a very nice modern setup. It was good as a business and a holiday stay. This is my second time. I first stayed while I was on business, I liked the hotel and booked it for my holiday.

My wife and I had a Hyatt free night to use from a recent credit card signup, so we decided to use it at the Andaz. After having some poor experiences at other luxury hotels, we were a bit apprehensive walking into our first Andaz -- worried that we weren't "luxury" enough for such an upscale hotel.

When we arrived in Amsterdam, we purchased a tram/bus pass, which was an excellent way to get around. The Andaz was a bit far away from the trams and main tourist attractions, but we didn't have much difficulty finding the tram that connected Amsterdam Central Station to Prinsengracht. Because the Andaz was a bit off the beaten path, it had a quieter and more exclusive feel than other hotels in the area.

At the check-in counter, all of our fears about overly-pretentious service were alleviated. The staff person who checked us in was super polite and down-to-earth. She even offered us a discount card for local attractions! She offered us a choice of a garden or canal view room -- but we would have had to wait an hour or so for the latter, so we gladly took the garden view.

Our room was excellent and really expressed "Amsterdam". The sink resembled delft pottery, there was custom wallpaper with Amsterdam history in the bathroom, the symbols of Amsterdam appeared throughout the decor and on the vanity, and the shower matched the weather outside. :) The wallpaper above the bed displayed a giant fish stitched to a goblet using Amsterdam's coat of arms. Strange? Yeah, but we loved it.

The evening happy hour was a nice perk, especially given the lack of an executive lounge, and we enjoyed the free wine and company of the lounge attendant, who was anxious to share and compare travel stories with us. It would have been nice if there were some better snacks beyond dry crackers, but we left the lounge feeling happy and ready to enjoy the night.

When we returned, I was anxious to try out the shower, and was a bit disappointed to find that it sprayed in all different directions due to calcium build-up in the shower head. However, after using the pencil in the room to quickly clean out each sprayer, the shower functioned as designed and it was quite heavenly. The bed was super comfortable, and we fell asleep with visions of Amsterdam dancing in our heads.

Check-out was just as pleasant as check-in, and we left feeling like we had an excellent, memorable stay. Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to stay again at this or another Andaz hotel.

Dear TheInternationalLine,
We glad you used our hotel for the free night from your CC sign up. What a great review, in many ways. Very good point about the shower. We will put an extra eye on it!
As you realized, Amsterdam is a very easy to get-around city.
Hopefully you will continue to earn many free nights with your Hyatt Gold Passport membership.
See you soon.
