“A great night out on Brisbane river, excellent seafood buffet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

If you like prawns, oyster and moreton bay bugs (a cross between a crab and a small lobster/crayfish) you'll love this dinner cruise. For $85 or so per head it's good value, there are also roast meats and vegetables, curries and rice, vegetables, fruit and desert and cheese with tea and instant coffee.

The buffet is refilled regularly, there of plenty of seafood brought out and you are welcome to go back to the buffet as many times as you like, so don't snack before you board. The food quality is pretty good for a boat.

The cruise down the river and back is pleasant, we were lucky with the weather too, and the Friday and Saturday night cruises go longer, returning around 10pm. There is pretty decent live entertainment on board too, a 2 piece singer/musician couple, but the real entertainment was the hens night on our deck and the birthday party group on the top deck, they kept us amused all evening.

Drinks are reasonably priced, a little expensive but what you'd expect for a boat cruise in Brisbane which has become expensive for good food.

A fun night out, recommended.

“Disappointing night, couldnt wait to get off!”

My husband and I recently celebrated our one year anniversay, and as a surprise for dinner had organised for us to go on the Kookaburra Queen as we had both admired it on the river. Right up until before we were about to leave he told me he was panicking as they had informed him there might not be enough numbers to go ahead with the cruise, he was surprised at this, but afterwards, it was understandable why no one goes back there.

When we arrived, everyone was squashed into tables by the window, by squashed, I mean you were too scared to eat or move because you were pressed right up against the person sitting behind you. We were so thirsty sitting there waiting, finally the bar opened, but once again, the predicament of wedging yourself out of your chair to get a drink! The food was already sitting in the bain maries for god knows how long before we arrived, and we watched them scoop out the old prawns from the cruise before (lunch time perhaps) and refill them with more without cleaning.

The buffet food was aweful!!! Would have been nice to know what half of it was, and my husband dared not to touch the seafood. I had to ask for butter to have with my roll, and eventually got a lump of rock hard butter they had found. The chops and kebabs were cold and variety was crap. We hardly ate a thing and went outside. There was no where to sit to enjoy the view except for a couple of steel chairs where smokers were. The people on board, were, well lets just say it bogan. We thought there would have been an element of class, but from food to people everything seemed tasteless. A visit to Sizzler would have been more enjoyable! My biggest view most of the evening was a female in a short dress, ripped fishnets, mauling the guy she was with. Hello, the buffet is the food, not your date!!!

We honestly couldnt wait to get off. My poor husband felt so bad, and appologised for the whole evening as he wanted it to be special. We both agreed though that because it was so bad it was laughable and we have had some great stories to tell. VERY DISAPPOINTING, WASTE OF MONEY!!!!

“Three hours of cold soup, cold rare steak and no way to get off”

Arrived with a school function of over 150 students on a Friday evening. A colleague had checked out the food before and was impressed. We took the most expensive menu. It seemed as soon "school" was heard, the food quality changed. All food was put onto some tables so they could all be delivered at once... unfortunately, lukewarm or COLD. The main arrived, the steak was hard, tough and equally cold, and so rare, it was inedible. We complained, and it was replaced with an equally cold dish. Then it seems, the 'heated up' version arrived, but now the steak was as tough as nails. The desert, was very nice, a great chocolate cake and the Pavlova was okay. The atmosphere was okay, rather worn. The music was too loud and pumped through old speakers, which had seen a little too much action. The service manager was lovely, and very helpful, but even he could not save the ship from a poor review. Do not expect them to be able to service hot, or even warm food to too many people at once. Go on a Saturday afternoon, and you will likely get a better experience. The best was clearly the light show and cruise.
