Qualia has the most amazing setting. Magnificent sea views, with passing whales, yachts boats & jet skis.. It is just heavenly..
Our room was sensational.. Room 11 with a plunge pool, looking out to sea, a small kitchenette .. ( no cooking facility) and the bedroom and bathroom also with views.. Incredible bath..
We had some problems.. With some basic practical things .. But the staff were happy to upgrade our room and provide some free food & drinks for our troubles. That was appreciated..
There seems to be a problem with communication between the Sydney administration and the resort.. I was told there was only instant coffee ( so brought my own) in the room,... Wrong.. There was plunger coffee.. And then a room was given to us with one bed, when we had specifically asked for 2 beds.. But as I said, the staff were suitably apologetic and we were given some 'extras' ..
They also left our suitcase at the airport.. oops.. but again did some 'make up' gestures..
It should also be said that we loved the food at the long pavilion Fine dining at its best.. .. Apart from the steak at the pub, we were disappointed with the restaurants in town, however we couldnt get into Romano's or the Yacht club..
We used the spa and although it was a bit over the top expensive, it was beautiful.
Really enjoyed the yoga every morning at the spa.. thanks Jennifer.. I think you have got me hooked!!
Thoroughly enjoyed the boat trip to the quiet, almost secluded beach.. with our picnic in tow.. All the rec staff were fantastic.
Loved the Qualia trip to Whitehaven beach.. stunning!!! and we also did an "on The Edge" day tour .on the big catamaran . really a lot of fun.. snorkelling and lunch and lots of swimming..

We loved that there are no young kids at the resort..
A fantastic experience....expensive, but pretty amazing.
Just double check all details ..

Room tip: Room 11 was excellent, They say that room 23 and room 6 are the most often requested.. Having our own plunge pool was amazing, especially as it looked out onto the sea.. We were initially in room 14, however it was a darker room and the pool was surrounded by trees.. all a lot darker..

Only there for a short time, but will definitely return. The service, location, consideration that's evidently been put into the resort design and feel are overwhelmingly very, very good.

There's a wonderfully relaxed feeling about the entire place and the staff are not overbearing but always there when you need something. Food was excellent in terms of price and the range.

Very relaxing and very everything required for a short stay.

Room tip: Dependent on whether you want sunrise or sunset you can select a side of the resort; some rooms have both sunrise and sunset.

Originally booked Fiji in June but had a medical emergency so this was my "consolation prize".
Some consolation!
The location, public spaces, room, food, wine, activities and wonderful staff made it an unforgettable holiday.
We stayed in a Leeward room as the Windward rooms were all taken.
My advice is unless you are a honeymooner who never wants to leave their room the extra money for those rooms is better spent on activities and food and wine in the wonderful on site restaurant in the Long Pavillion.
We stayed 6 nights and ate in our room one night (seafood
Platter yum) also ate 3 nights in the Long Pavillion.
Ate elsewhere on the island the other 2 nights and could not wait to get back to Qalia.
Had 2 beach drop offs, tried kayaking , stand up paddle boarding and catermaraning all with the assistance of the absolutely wonderful beach staff.
You can also play golf at nearby Dent Island and there are snorkeling and fishing trips available.
The pool at Pebble Beach was amazing and there were always plenty of loungers in shade and in sun.
Beware of 2 things about pebble beach though, it really is made of Pebbles so you may cut your feet if you don't wear footwear
(The resort provides reef shoes)
And you need to beware of the kookaburras who may steal your food.
Are already planning a return trip.
Not cheap but very special.

For the money, the service and amenities really should be impeccable, and they're not.
Generally the resort is still beautiful, the entrance is still stunning and the staff are still very courteous, but, there certainly are faults.
When you book a Leeward room at approx. $1000 per night, it has no pool and only breakfast is included. the room itself is pleasant enough, but not spectacular. Value for money it isn't.
We found the cleaning service sporadic at best, at times wondering if somebody had actually been in the room or wondering had one of us hastily tidied the room ourselves before leaving.
Breakfast takes ages to serve, even a cup of tea took about 15 mins to deliver. I ordered the full breakfast and was served up two eggs and bacon. No tomatoes, mushrooms etc. On the second morning I ordered the same breakfast and got everything, but there was ONE mushroom and this was the size of a 20c piece.
Having stayed previously at the resort and having no complaints whatsoever, this does seem to hint at a downward trend.
I also totally agree with another review that the Pebble Beach bar and restaurant is over priced.
From memory a sandwich cost $35 and it wasn't as fabulous as that price would suggest.
Its still a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the Whitsundays, but it certainly needs to up its game a bit.

Room tip: Not a Leeward if you can afford it.

Dear AusGeordie,

Please accept my thanks albeit belated for submitting a review of your stay at qualia. I do apologise for the tardiness of acknowledgement.

Suffice to say, your review made for disappointing reading, as it appears we clearly missed the mark in more than one particular area on this, your return visit to qualia.

Regrettably, we were not aware of any issues during your stay. Notwithstanding, we learn from your experiences in our endeavour to continually improve the qualia experience.

Once more, I offer my sincere apologies that you felt your stay at qualia was anything less than perfect on this occasion.

Kind regards,

Matthew T

We are currently staying at the Qualia Resort on Hamilton Island to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We got here on 31 August and are staying for a week. I haven't done this before but thought it might be a good idea to give a 'running review' of our stay instead of trying to recollect all the experiences for a review after we've left.
We flew into Hamilton Island on Jetstar from Brisbane. The flight took 1.5 hours over some beautiful coastal scenery culminating in the sea port of Mackay which is due south of Hamilton Island. I kept our destination a secret from my wife for as long as possible but had to give away the fact that we were going to HI when we checked in. However she was still unaware of our accommodation there.
When we arrived she asked how we were getting to our hotel. I knew we were going to be collected by Qualia staff at the airport but wasn't aware how it would happen. So the pleasant surprises started from that point. We turned the corner into the HI airport and there, standing by a Qualia welcoming stand were three smiling gentlemen in Qualia gear. On the desk stand was a sign with our names and as we approached to introduce ourselves David introduced himself, gave us a cold wash towel and a cool bottle of water. He said that our checked in luggage would be taken care of and that if we liked, Rob could chauffeur us to Qualia immediately. Rob, the friendly chauffeur drove us to Qualia, stopping a couple of times to show us some of the sights. Very enjoyable.
When we got to Qualia we were welcomed on arrival with French champagne by Tara, who was professional and informative about bookings, activities, and recommendations for the week. The entry to the welcoming area has to be seen to be believed. As we walked through the front doors onto the polished timber floors to be ushered to a comfortable lounge, before us was a magnificent view of the Coral Sea, calm and very inviting. Definitely a winning introduction.
The highlight of our first day however was our Pavilion (the Qualia word for your accommodation). We were shown to our personal electric buggy for use during our stay and drove to our Pavilion following Tara.
When I booked this holiday in February I used Tripadvisor reviews to guide us on the best Pavilion to request. Reviewers recommended numbers 6, 9, or 10 as the picks. I spoke to Jackie then, our Luxury Specialist, who told me to leave it to her and she would select an irresistible Pavilion for us. Jackie was true to her word. Our Pavilion faces due west (the Spring west that is), and is literally to die for. Every available window faces out towards the sapphire Coral Sea. Due west means we have lovely shady moments in the morning and a sun-drenched plunge pool and deck in the afternoons. It doesn't get better. The Pavilion is modern, well maintained, and with no hint of aging. One sensational feature is the full length floor to ceiling reinforced glass window in the living room that disappears into the floor at the press of a button. Once recessed into the floor you have access to a small balcony for viewing. Very cool.
The bathroom is a delight with what I regard is the most comfortable bath for 2 we have used for a very long time. The views from the bathtub are worth the price of admission. Interestingly the bathtub surface is made of elegant non-stick material which enhances the experience of sitting in the bath sipping French champagne whilst the leisure and pleasure craft sail lazily by or the jet ski tours roar through the waters without being offensive to our ears. Having studied the map of Qualia it looks as if our Pavilion is only one of 2 that has the due west aspect. If you are booking ask your Luxury Expert about 23 and 24. You can't go wrong.
So much for the accommodation at the moment.
The activities are fantastic and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Thanks to Rex who took us for a sail on one of the two available catamarans. Rex gave us a micro lesson in sailing and introduced us to his sea-faring mate Leo the turtle who surfaced for a gander and then disappeared again. That evening we had dinner at the Long Pavilion (the Qualia fine dining restaurant) and were looked after by Carmel, who essentially ordered our food for us on our request. Samuel the young sommelier kept his wine selections up with the food and was very entertaining and informative.
This morning we went on a jet ski tour. It was our first time and i cannot recommend it highly enough. It is a mixture of excitement, fun, and beauty as you travel at decent speeds through the water on a loop around HI.
Tonight we dine at Coca Chu, a Thai Restaurant on the Marina. We will continue this review tomorrow.
