Firstly, I will, admit, this was not our intended hotel. When we booked the Fairfield inn we thought it was the one near Chinatown, we were not aware there were two, so be sure you’re at the right one. Although disappointed we were in the wrong hotel, let alone location, we had to make the most of it. The reception staff were polite, friendly and helpful, (even though the manager constantly fails to respond to emails). The Biggest concern was the journey to the main ‘town’ which was a good 10-15 minute drive, but the hotel has a shuttle service which goes to and from Union Station. You do have to book it with reception the night before and give them a time for picking up, but it is free as is the hassle! Once at Union Station you can get the Metro anywhere or walk over to the U S Capitol Building (Bear in mind though it is a good mile down to the Lincoln memorial. On our first day there we went on a segway tour, we booked it through http://dc.citysegwaytours.com/tours/national-mall-segway-tour and pre booked before flying out. The session last about three hours with a brief introduction on how to ride the Segway, I have to say it was great fun and a brilliant way to see the sights
The rooms in the hotel are quite big, they have a modern TV and a fridge and WiFi works...Firstly, I will, admit, this was not our intended hotel. The rooms in the hotel are quite big, they have a modern TV and a fridge and WiFi works in the rooms too, the windows are a bit old
Breakfast was more than ample, considering the size of the dining room, they manage to put a lot out, although by the third day we were starting to get bored of eating!!!!!!
They are a bit behind on the times in that the rooms do not have a safe. You can hire (for free) a safety deposit box at the front desk, which is safe as it requires two keys to open it and you keep one of them, downside is you have two carry it around with you.
The hotel is on quite a busy junction but the traffic doesn't keep you awake. There is a McDonalds on the opposite corner and also a KFC
In summary, not a bad hotel but we would have preferred the other one as it was next to ChinatownMore
