It had been a very long day travelling from Lake Nakuru back through Nairobi to reach the highway which leads to the Mara. It took another 5 hours to reach the lodge after leaving the highway! The roads in the Mara are dreadful - prepare yourself for a very uncomfortable, bumpy ride.
It was worth it! The Mara Serena Safari Lodge is beautiful. Great outlook over the plains, which go for miles. The whole resort is decorated in an African theme and the friendly staff gave amazing service. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all buffet style with a hugh variety to suit all tastes - the quality of the food was excellent.
There was a gorgeous pool to while away the day in between our 6-9.00 am and 3.00-6.00pm safaris. The rooms, which are beautifully decorated look small from the outside, but this is deceiving. They have large picture windows which look out over the plains where you can observe the wildlife.
The Masai Mara National Reserve is vast. We saw a hugh amount of wildlife-except leopards- and some birdlife and we saw very little traffic in the park due to it's size.
Our 3 days at the Mara Serena were very enjoyable and would definitely stay here again if returning to the Mara. Anyone looking for a first class experience should consider staying at the Mara Serena. We could not fault it.

What a view....breathtaking! You can actually view the famous crossings with binoculars from the lodge itself. The masaai manyatta concept used in making the lodge is great and really fits into the environment. Food layout leaves you mesmerised and is always delicious.
service is great and we love the place so much that we have been there repeatedly over the years and have never ever been disappointed. Lots of game in and around the Lodge which is always the highlight of our frequent visits. Never, ever leave your balcony door open as you'll surely get intruders...baboons! Recommended to all as is one of the best places in the Mara for sure.....

This place was so peaceful. The food was good and we loved our waitress, Stella.

A gorgeous pool at which to laze the day away between drives. In the evening a bonfire is set and a cocktail to be had around the blaze before you settle in for dinner.

Service here was such a high point. Our waitress, our bartender, the Masai who gave us our wilderness hike tour.

There is a watering hole near here and I woke up one night to an elephant just outside our window. We also saw lions swaggering through.

Seriously, they're not joking when they tell you to keep your patio doors closed when you're not in the room. Baboons are smart enough to know food is kept at the lodge and have been known to wander into rooms or the restaurant so be smart!

This land also has black rhinos (highly endangered) and we saw all the big animals except for evasive cheetahs.

Loved the architure. The rooms are built like a Masai hut with top notch facilities inside. From your room you can see the Mara river and see the animals. A baboon and an anteloppe used to hang just outside our window. We stayed three days and really enjoyed it. Wanted to stay more. The road to the park is outrageous and would never drive there again. Next time We would fly from Nairobi. The Serena drivers knew where all the animals were so didnot waiste a lot of time looking for them.

Room tip: All the rooms are very similar. I think the only choice is one bed or two

This safari was done in April 2011 and just now I am reviewing the trip since I was not aware of Trip Advisor; After a long drive from Nakuru Park we reached this beutifull resort on top of a hill where you just enjoy a stunning 360° panorama of the Mara Conservacy. We stayed 2 nights and could fully appreciate the location, rooms, service and food. Generally was a luxury retreat in this wonderfull paradise of wildlife

Room tip: All room have beautifull view
