There are many things to like about this hotel. The staff works very hard to provide for your every need. (They are so attentive that it sometimes gets intrusive.) Apon check-in you have in your room a pot of hot tea and lovely fresh fruit. The hotel has several nice restaurants to serve just about any food desire. The hotel is connected to Pacific Place Mall which has many high-end stores. Directly across the street from the hotel is Hong Kong Park which is a pleasant place to walk (see the tea ware museum and the aviary).

Despite all that, I would not choose to stay here again. My room had a strong damp/musty oder that prevailed throughout my four day stay. At first I thought is was just my room, but my business colleague had the same oder in her room.

I can get over this, but with so many other great hotels with great service, I would choose not to stay in one with bad oder.

Room tip: I was on the Horizon Club level in the room numbers of the XX30's. These are not a good view.

Stayed for 3 nights on business. My last Shangri La was in Vancouver which was exceptional. This is larger but just as impressive and I had a magnificent spacious room with a harbour view. All amenities and luxuries provided apart from the docking station didn't support iPod touch which was a pain. Room service is tasty and not overpriced. Used the excellent gym and sat by the pool for a couple of hours although building noise and dust from next door made it less than relaxing. Staff are all immaculate, polite and attentive as you would expect . Not cheap (and certainly more than the Conrad next door which I have also reviewed) but overall I loved it.

It's a great hotel and I prefer to stay either Mandarin, Landmark Mandarin or Island Shangri-la in HK. The room is spacious and it has a lot of great restaurants inside the hotel. Nadaman has a good sushi counter and the French Restaurant in the top floor offers a superb cuisine. It may need a little face lift inside the room but still it's one of my favorites.

I stayed here for 3 nights in early October 2012, for business. My "Deluxe Harbour View Room" (room 4412, if I recall correctly) actually had a view of the Conrad hotel next door, but if I leaned against the glass, I could see some of the harbour.

That said, the hotel itself is beautiful and the standard of service from every quarter was exceptional. In-room Dining, Business Centre, Reception/Check-in, Concierge ... all consummate professionals prepared to exceed your expectations! In-room breakfast was lovely on all three days - the fact that they bring the toaster to your room, so your toast is piping hot and crunchy (not luke-warm and chewy), is a wonderful idea!

The only drawback, as with other Shangri-La resorts, is that the selection of pillows is less than ideal - only very soft (almost flat) feather pillows, or a very firm, very high poly-foam pillow (no latex/memory foam???).

The best thing I love about this hotel is its completeness/convenience - has everything on site!

Location: great, right on Pacific Place Mall/Office Complex and Admiralty Station.

Gym & Spa: Very functional gym & pools. Beautiful, hardwood decorated spa (with jacuzzi and steam room), a great plus!

Breakfast Cafe: Amazing selection! The best breakfast buffet I've ever seen. Features food around the world.

Decor: A bit old-fashioned, Asian-style luxe, more formal than casual.

Room: Very nice size in Hong Kong. I love the welcome tea/fruits and chocolates!

Service: Always good at Shangri-la

Great for: Business, Family
