We stayed here in September (myself, Mrs Haggis and our two kids, aged 8 and 10) for four nights. We had inter connecting Harbour View rooms on the 43rd floor - any many thanks to Mark Siu at the hotel for his assistance in arranging these.
This was my second stay at the Island Shangri La in four months (on business the last time) and on both occassions the service was outstanding and genuinely hard to find fault with the hotel.
The rooms are outstanding - spacious, well designed and fitted out and very comfortable. Fabulous views, high speed internet connections, huge (!) plasma screen tv, fax, printer, tv in the bathroom and the usual amenities, kettle, mini bar etc.
We ordered room service on the first night after a long flight and late night trip to the markets. The food was excellent and the usually fussy kids were very satisfied. We didn't dine in any of the other restaurants or cafes.
The Health Club is also excellent, wide variety of modern equipment, machines and free weight. TV screen on most of the machines. The changing room has a sauna, jaccuzi and steam room as well as the most comfortable towels and robes - Mrs Haggis was very relaxed. The place was spotless as well.
The pool was also terrific, great views of the island and modern buildings.
A special mention for the service. From the moment you arrive you are welcomed and treated as a very special guest. Every single member of staff smiled, welcomed and greeted us. Nothing was too much trouble. Every hotel that believes it is 5 Star should visit here to see what service really should be.
I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. We will certainly return.
