Something very special about what the Ordoñez family has done with their family home. It is a unique experience in Cuenca, with the warmth and pride of a family home. The woodwork and floors are beautiful, with lots of character.
The modern touches are much appreciated- hot water, good lighting. The restraint is also wonderful - - - - nothing superfancy here, just brilliant light in the courtyard where an excellent breakfast is served each morning with good coffee. Alberto, Diana, and Maria Inez were genuinely concerned with our welfare, and they have trained the staff to demonstrate the same type of concern and sense of humor. Alberto served in the US Navy for several years after 9-11, and he brings a "can-do" attitude along with extensive experience in the hospitality industry to the enterprise.
Cuenca is an enchanting city, and we felt lucky to have chosen Casa Ordoñez for four nights. Ask to see the old family living room that overlooks the street, Mariscal Lamar. When they were upgrading the electrical systems, they discovered a fresco above the drop ceiling, and they furnished the room with period pieces so you can enjoy a bit of old Cuenca. We asked for a tranquil room. It was perfect, even including a bunch of beautiful big pink roses. The other guests were easygoing, friendly, and bright people from all over.
