My mother and I were booked to come to this Lodge by our tour guide (another story altogether - watch this space!). Our first clue should have been the completely ramshackle bus that came to collect us, but we took this is the spirit of things. We arrived at the Lodge which at first glance seemed lovely. We were excited by the promise of a Spa and Jacuzzi and the nature walks arranged for the next day.

Things started to go really wrong when we were shown our room. It had an air of neglect and despondency that was evident from the shabby curtains falling off their tracks, the hobbit sized sink and the cockroaches constantly scuttling across the floor. Nevertheless, we were in the "Amazon" so we let this go.

We decided to explore. The Spa was non-existent and the jacuzzi looked as though it had not been used in years. The tiles were broken and it was filthy. There was a dog on site who obviously belonged to the Lodge. The poor thing would have been better to have been put down. He was sick and miserable and made me want to cry each time I saw him - have a look at the photo - it's called ANIMAL ABUSE!

Lunch was another poor affair - being vegetarian (and it would appear nobody had told them) - I made do with the selection of ONE salad that was available. I must credit the Lodge temporarily at this point and say that from that point on they did try to make me vegetarian dishes, albeit the same one for lunch and dinner everyday for three days, except on the night before I left, when I received no food whatsoever and was told to take my complaint to Head Office because they hadn't sent the supplies!

Another word of warning. There are NO animals anywhere near this Lodge. The guide himself admitted that the village located right NEXT to the Lodge (you could hear their music blasting till 10pm, you would not come here for peace and quiet) meant that the villagers consumed all the animals, from monkeys to caiman, and therefore we would probably need to travel at least three hours away before we saw any animals in the wild.

Overall I do NOT recommend this place to anyone who wants an authentic jungle experience. You would be better off going to the South of Peru, and staying at one of the Lodge's in the protected parks, where the wildlife is not eaten and you are not conned into going to see local villagers who then try to guilt you into buying their crappy products!

Room tip: All the rooms have about 4 - 5 beds in them. Recommendation? Do NOT choose a room here at all!

We stayed at this lodge by accident, after the booking company made a mix up with the reservation. We had planned to stay somewhere that was a bit more disconnected from the world, but ended up with one that has the longest waterslide in the Amazon. After the initial disappointment, we were extreamly happy that this lodge was not as disconnected as some of the others we had heard of.

Our guide met us as the airport, and stayed with us until the end of the package after 2N and 3D. He was knowledgeable and took us on our daily excursions. He was so good we hired him after our lodge visit had finished for a tour of Belen Market.

The lodge itself was large and clean, any issues like bats in the rooms (we had one such incident) were dealt with by staff. There were some cochroaches in the room but what do you expect in the jungle.

The main dining and meeting hut was large and has a viewing tower so you can see up and down the Momon River, The food was copious and first class (Catfish, Alligator and other unusual tasty treats on offer). All the staff were freindly and professional.

Lastly the waterslide, although we didn't want this level of family fun, I can assure you after a day of hot, sticky, sweaty excursions it was just the perfect end to the day. Watching the sun go down, while in the pool and just seeing the flashes of lightning in the sky from a distant storm in the jungle.

Yes it was commercial, and if you really want an Amazon adventure perhaps this isn't for you, but with a good guide (I can highly recommend our's if you would like his details, email me), this is a bite sized, comfortable way to experience a little bit of the Jungle near Iquitos.

First thing is be prepared to pay in advance. We did not realise this as Pacarama who we booked through, did not tell us.
Our guide was good and tried to tailor our two day stay to suit us. We did not want the standard tours of the zoos and butterfly farms, as we could do that in the UK. We did a 2 hour jungle treck through some relatively thick jungle and the excitment here was a close encounter with a snake. We did a few trips up the river in the day and at night and saw a few birds.
The Momon river has vilages along the banks and any animals are either eaten or captured, so the area does not have much in the way of accessable wildlife.
If you only have a few days then Rainforest Lodge will give you a taste of the Jungle, but if you can make the time then, you would be better spending 6 hours in a boat and going to a National Reserve.
Our guide spoke English, but not of the lodge staff could speak English.
The food was basic but edible.
The bed was OK but the Hut could do with some attention.
The bathroom was the same. Found a frog and two cockroaches in the bathroom, so not well sealed.
We had a party of 80 day trippers trun up on the day that we were going to use the pool. They put the music on full blast. The only relief came when the generator was turned off.
The owner of the lodge needs to decide on the type of clientel that he is trying to atract and then gear towards that. With a little investment and some direction, the lodge could be much better as it,s setting is nice and the layout of the lodge is good.
On our way back to Iquitos we were taken onto what was the Amazon and saw the river Dolphins, this was a great experience and we wish that we were given more time to see them.

One of the best places on earth to escape from the big city. We were picked up at the airport by our guide who stayed with us until the moment we departed. Our guide- Guido - was absolutely awesome and spoke great English. The entire stay is planned (in terms of activities)...but it is possible to substitute activities depending on your interests. Our favorite activity was the boat ride at night in complete darkness. We also did a hike through the jungle, pirana fishing, visited a botanical garden, 2 tribes, and a butterfly farm. Load up on the bug spray, don't bother bringing your cell phone as there is no reception, but the lodge does have the internet access. We absolutely loved it and would go back again in heartbeat!!!

Stayed here for 3 nights. We had booked the stay per telephone and everything went much smoother than I had expected. After landing at the small Iquitos airport we met our guide and driver who were expecting us there and then drove in a minibus to the lodge office which is located in the city center where we paid our stay. After that we continued to the river port from where we boarded a motorboat.

First we went to a small animal shelter where we could see anacondas, monkeys and caimans. After that the trip continued to the lodge itself. It was quite a long ride but watching the rainforest scenery made it interesting.

The lodge was quite big with a large main building that had a viewing tower and a restaurant. The guests stayed in individual huts. There was also a pool with a slide, perfect for a refreshing dip after an excursion in the jungle. During our stay there weren't many other guests so the place was rather peaceful. Our guide arranged long walks to the jungle where we learned so much about different trees and animals and plants. We also made a fabulous night boat trip under a full moon listening to all the bird sounds. A great experience. There is also a small local village nearby that you can visit and buy some beer eg. if you want to see how the locals live.

The cabin where we stayed was spacious with 4 individual beds but it was very hot. The bathroom was not very clean. On request they brought us a hammock to relax in on the porch. There are lots of parrots and other animals in the lodge garden, even a tapir.

Everything except drinks was included in the price and we were quite satisfied with the overall experience. Only the food was a bit monotonic I must admit.
