As I was heading 400 miles west from Austin to stay in this "adobe cottage" to finish writing a book, I had no idea what a spectacular five star find Cinco Estrelllas would be, FAR exceeding my expectations for what was available in this region.
My 2-week stay in this lovely art-filled house was a beautiful, luxurious, comfortable, and completely unique West Texas experience.... more like one would expect for far greater sums in Taos, Sonoma, San Miguel or Marfa. I have been to Cibolo Creek Ranch and the Gage-- both amazing places-- but this exquisite eco-friendly gem was more inspiring, welcoming (and affordable) for guests.
Every amenity was provided, from the lovely linens, soaps and robes to the tucked away flatscreen (with great regional DVD titles), a fully stocked Sonoma style kitchen (complete with elegant dishes and a Vulcan stove), a full diningroom table and one of the best beds I've ever slept in. The morning sunrises and stargazing from the back porch were amazing, and I was delighted to find even new Townie bicycles to ride... excellent restaurants, interesting shops and a good grocery store are very close by, and there's little need for a car-- although Alpine, is only 25 miles in any direction from any of the regional highlights like Marfa and teh MacDonald Observatory

Let's just put this under the heading of "gushing review" because the biggest thing Cinco Estrellas provided was the pefect setting for an artistic endeavor... or romantic encounter (that's another story): the happy ending to this "stay-cation" is that the book got written and this former Manhattanite came back from a memorable journey telling everyone how lucky it was that Cinco Estrellas was my home Out Yonder... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.More
