Mon Choisy beach resort is rightly one of the better places on Mauritius for independent travellers. We had a beach view room which overlooked the pool. The rooms are very clean and modern, great shower, bed etc.
If you have breakfast included it is brought to your room and is continental style which was fine, although it would have been better if we could have taken breakfast in a communal area when we were ready as opposed to at a set time.
This is also one of the downsides of the resort, there isn't a bar which given that there is almost nothing in walking distance in Mon Choisy means you either sit in your room of an evening or have to get in your car or get a taxi.
The other downside is that rooms are quite noisy, the door to our room was right next to the bathroom window next door and given there is no soundproofing round the door we could hear our neighbours taking a shower. You can actually see daylight around the door when it is closed, so you can hear other people using the stairs etc. It would have been more sensible to invest in proper sound proofing than to equip every room with a coffee maker for example.
The beach at Mon Choisy is one of the best in Mauritius and well worth walking along. There is a beach shack with OK food, Magic Mystique but not really anywhere else in walking distance to eat. DON'T eat at Stephanie's the food there is terrible.
The best places we ate at were the Cabin de Filao further down the coast and at Esprit Libre which has a nice garden.
Back to the Beach Resort though and the staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful, the pool area is fantastic overlooking the sea.
