Thank you to Ursula and the staff at the Grand Daddy hotel. Elegant old world hotel with quirky stainless 1950's trailers on the roof - each with its own theme. Roof top bar, free outdoor movie nights with complementary popcorn and lollipops. Happened to meet the owner Jan who was in town. Great guy with lots of helpful information about fishing lodges for my keen angler husband. Well worth a drink at the bar even if you are staying elsewhere.

Dear Nora P

I am so glad that you enjoyed you time with us. Yes the trailers are quiet special and with the refurbishment done this year they are elegant. The Pink Flamingo Rooftop Cinema is quiet a unique experience and a lovely way to start the week.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel

Kind Regards

This was our first stop in Cape Town and I was SO excited to check out the trailers at the Grand Daddy. We chose the Gold Rush trailer after it had been renovated. The trailers were one of those experiences that seems cooler than it actually is. I would give this 2.5 stars really.

The decor was average--I was definitely expecting something with a lot more flair and the trailer was barely more of less functional, but I wouldn't want to a) stay in the trailer and hang out or b) stay in the trailer for an elongated period of time.

The bed was pretty comfy, but there was not a lot of room to put our stuff. Plus, the bathroom was crazy small and my husband had to hunch over to use the shower, which had not partition so the whole bathroom got wet each time you used it.

There were 2 parties there when we stayed---1 was during the day, which was weird changing and stuff with a private party outside. And we didn't feel comfortable having a beer outside since the party was private, and another one downstairs which was over by the time we came back for the night.

I found the staff not as accommodating as many of the other hotels we stayed in on this trip. They seemed rather bored and we had to drug out 4 suitcases up and down the stairs when we came and when we left. No one really offered to help which was weird.

Overall, cool experience for a night, but they need to work on a few things.

Dear Dayroth

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback from your stay at the hotel.

I am sorry that our trailers did not live up to your expectation. We did a complete refurbishment of the airstream trailers this year. We decided to change the theme to a local concept of ‘a South African Road Trip’ ; highlighting the unique destinations in our country. We have totally guttered the trailers and built them from inside out with a whole new layout and bathroom design to give it a spacious feeling. With our last designs, the themes were quiet OTT and not totally functional. We had quite a few complaints that the trailers were not functional to stay in and the beds were not comfortable. This time we designed the trailers to be more functional and theme each. Therefore all the trailers have proper queen size beds, shower wet rooms, aircons, tv and fridges.I am sorry to hear you did not like the wet room as we have had such positive responses since we re-opened

With regards to the private party on the roof, I am not sure when you stayed with us, however we only hire out the central platform area for functions and always keep the Sky Bar open to our guests staying on the rooftop, so that you can always enjoy a drink on the rooftop. I will also be taking your issues regarding the staff up with my Front of House Manager. We generally have such good feedback regarding our service and I apologise that we fell short of your expectations.

We hope that next time you visit Cape Town we can welcome you back to the hotel

Kind Regards

There are a lot of things about this hotel that could have bothered me. The long agreement the hotel's attorneys concocted for guests to sign at check in. The fact that the historic elevator was out of order for renovation. The fact that the rooftop trailer park was being renovated. Or that the car park was a block and a half away leaving a dodgy 4:30am walk through the gauntlet of aggressive late-night panhandlers when I left for the airport.

But the positives of this quirky historic hotel overcame all of these objections. The rooms were great. Clean, spacious and modern inside despite the building's age. The breakfast was great. Despite the fact that the public restaurant had a restricted menu for the hotel's "included" breakfasts, the selection was still very good, with different dishes and eggs cooked to order and everything very flavorful and good quality. One of the best hotel breakfasts I've had. And the staff was very helpful and friendly. And the fact that the hotel was unique and not a cookie-cutter chain hotel made it just that much better.

I totally enjoyed my stay at the Grand Daddy.

Dear 415traveller

Thank you for you review of the Hotel. We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed yourself ! Sorry that the hotel rooftop and our historic lift were not open during your stay; however we were refurbishing them. We have completely guttered the trailers on the rooftop and redesigned the bar area. I hope that next time you are in Cape Town we can welcome you back to the hotel and show you the new rooftop

I stayed one night in September whilst attending a 4 day conference at the convention centre (CTICC). I stayed here, in central Cape Town, in order to socialise with friends for 1 night. I can't really criticise it at all. It is very tastefully & comfortably decorated, I stayed on the 2nd floor facing away from the main road (quieter), block out curtains so the morning sun does not bother, DSTV, coffee/tea & mini bar fridge, telephone. I got back at 4am and was greeted by a smiling gentleman at the door who opened up for me (for security reasons the door is locked at night). Hearty massive breakfast with cereals, fruit and the full cooked range.
Taxis are abundant outside and it is within easy access by taxi to the world famous V&A waterfront.
I had a hired car. Parking is in a safe parking lot about 2 blocks from the hotel. My only gripe if at all is that it would have been nice if this was closer, but not a hassle & the staff go out of their way to assist in any way possible.
It is considerably cheaper than any of the nearby big hotels. Would recommend it again & again.

While the front desk staff were aloof, our room #307 was well decorated and quite charming. The classic elevator, glamorous stair case, and the bar on the rooftop with the airstream trailers made this hotel unique. The wifi worked fine while we were there and we enjoyed the breakfast from the restaurant on the ground floor.

The location is great, only a few short blocks from all the nightlife and restaurants. The hop on and hop off bus stop is also nearby.
