We had room F806, a superior one bedroom apartment with kitchen, including washer/dryer and fridge, which was wonderful and has a terrace looking out on Table Mountain. The hotel is conveniently located in the center of Cape Town and has its own parking (R55/night with in/out).
Doppio Zero, the restaurant in the building, has good food and excellent cakes for reasonable prices. They deliver to your room. Service and friendliness of the restaurant staff could be better.
Although the room was very nice, other hotel services could also be better. The internet is limited to only 2 devices per room, and only 200MB data per day. The registered devices cannot be reset, so when my phone broke down, we could only use half of our data allowance for the remainder of our stay. There was nothing anyone could do about it.
Switch off any auto update settings on your devices, because the 200MB is gone before you know it!
The hotel gym is very poor. One of the treadmills, both home trainers and the steps machine were all out of order for the entire duration of our stay (8 days), some with an out of order sign, some without. There were no towels in the gym and on only one day there was a limited amount of cups available for drinking water.
There's no iron and iron board in the room, you need to ask for these at the reception. You can also get a travel adapter for SA for a R150 deposit.
The hotel personnel is friendly, but appear a bit uninterested and don't go the extra mile. Not really a 4* service we have experienced in other hotels.
On the whole, Mandela Rhodes Place is really a good hotel, with good value for money, but don't expect more than you pay for.
