ESA Coral Gables is not a hotel. It is more like a small condo for short term - weekly or monthly stays. Lobby is just a small elevator hall with a check in reception counter on a side. (it closes in the evening, and there is no one after 10 PM) When you return late at night, the key to your room gives you access to the building.
Area is good, parking is free and there was always room to park.
There is a supermarket, pharmacy and several fast food restaurants nearby, as well as all the shops and cafes on magnificent mile.
Rooms are effciencies with kitchen. But cooking was imposible as the cookware is metallic and old and food sticks and burns. Had to buy my own a non stick pan to cook breakfast every morning. So if you are booking here for the convenience of a kitchen...think twice.
Room was OK, but a bit outdated. Housekeeping is just every other day on weekly stays and housekeeping (by some city ordinance law) cannot wash your dishes.
I had a very uncomfortable problem. The toilet did not work during my 10 day stay. It would not flush. I reported it to the reception early morning on my way out and when I returned very late at night the toilet still did not work. I noticed maintenace had been in the room though. This story repeated itself every day for 8 days nonstop...it became pretty obvious the toilet was beyond repair and instead of moving me, they let me come at night, every night, for 10 nights, after all personnel had gone, only to discover my "morning toilet report" had no effect and that it had not been fixed.
....It was not until the 9th day when I was offered to move into another room. ( It was late and I had an early flight the next morning, so I declined to move.)
Not having a working toilet during a 10 day stay had to be the most uncomfortable hotel stay ever. ...Every night I came back to the same unflushable toilet. If it was beyond repair, why was I not offered to move sooner?? I was never in the hotel during their working hours but they could have left a message in my room with the offer!
At check out, I was visibly upset, expecting to hear at least an explanation. Nothing. Staff is not particularly friendly, and did not really understand the horror of having a dirty toilet for 10 days.
I was there for business so I did not have time to stay during the day and see if they managed to fix it!
I also wrote to their headquarters and haven't heard from them yet......Not very keen on guest relations!
The pictures you see on their website DO NOT correspond to this ESA Coral Gables.
In short, ....location is good and safe, but there is more to a hotel than location! ......Price is sometimes good, but please stay at the Ramada Limited Dadeland/ Hampton inn or others whenever they offer a comparable rate.
Do not pay more than $80 for ESA Coral Gables.
